Very early prediction, but I'd say Caldwell and Monroe Central will probably be the early favorites. Frontier could possibly make some noise as well.

If Frontier can find some linemen to protect Fickiesen it could be a big year in Cougarland, but Monroe Central always has enough underclassmen starters to reload most seasons. Seminoles need a QB cause Derek-London Dierkes graduated, but Coach Circosta always finds a way to piece it together.
Caldwell lost a lot, Fort Frye is building, Shenandoah won't stay down long, River is going to miss QB Dylan Potts, and Buckeye Trail has some young talent on the way.
My prediction - Monroe, Frontier, FF, Caldwell, Shenandoah, River, Trail - although the 3-to-7 positions could juggle.

Everybody said the same thing about Caldwell last year and I think they performed pretty well. This team was young for the most part. They'll lose a couple good players, but have some pretty good ones returning as well. It'll be really hard to replace a player like Todd, but hopefully somebody can step in and try to fill in that spot as best they can. They've got some key pieces returning. I think they'll do pretty well.

While Monroe loses arguably one of the most athletic QB's that Circosta has coached in his 38 years, they have a great deal of talent returning, with great team speed. Some holes to fill in the line as well, but it sounds like there's going to be a large influx of talent with the upcoming freshman class. Chief Jay isn't afraid to play them either, if they are ready for varsity.

I like MC, Caldwell, Frontier, and the Fort as the top four for 2010.

Although I'd like to see Caldwell win the PVC, I think MC is set up best to take the crown.

Very early prediction, but this is how I see it shaking out.

1. MC
2. Caldwell
3. Frontier
4. Fort Frye
5. Shenandoah
6. River
7. Buckeye Trail

From what i saw last year's MC 8th grade was huge. Bigger than most teams, and talented. Look for the Noles to rule again as Chief Jay pads his all-time winningest OVAC record.

Monroe will dominate the league. After that it is up in the air.Caldwell,Frontier,Fort Frye, and even Doah could compete.Fort Frye will look to build returning alot of key players.QB-Ed Watson RB-Klinger FB-Skinner.Fort Frye could also get alot of help from new players Herndon,Jefferson,Kyle Brooker and Cole Okey.

The Fort could be much better next season. They showed some promise in the MC game up in Woodsfield this past fall, which was my one opportunity to see the Cadets play in 2009.

Sounds like Jefferson will be a nice addition to the Cougars' offense. Fickiesen, if he gets protection, will look for him for that breakaway threat.

I'm interested to see how Caldwell does this year. It seems, for some reason, that a lot of people like to basically just hate on Caldwell, or basically give them little credit for what they've done. And i'm not coming on here complaining because we don't get respect or anything like that, because I couldn't really care less. It just seems odd that Caldwell gets all this hate. When Devol first came in, it seemed a lot of people outside of Noble County said it wouldn't matter and that they wouldn't be any good. Then last year it was all the inexperience and youth that Caldwell had that would hold them back, and now i've heard the same talk this year.

Of course, they're losing some good/great players. But they've also got good/great players coming back. I believe Sayre will be back for his 3rd year behind center (2nd as a starter), Morris will be, or at least has the potential to be one of the best, if not the best TE in the league, and I believe a good portion of both the offensive and defensive lines will be back. Sure they'll have a tough time replacing some of their big impact players, but it seems Caldwell finds a way to plug guys in and have them perform fairly well. I don't think this coming year will be any different. I'd love to see them win the PVC title. In my eyes, right now, it's between them and Monroe Central.

I just don't see Frontier getting their second win of all time vs Woodsfield/Monroe Central. Over the years the record is something like 35-1 give or take a few.

N.L. - Maybe when "pigs fly". LOL! I don't see another dent in the win column for the Cougars vs. the Seminoles for awhile......... After that one loss, I believe that there is enough pressure on any Seminole team from the alumni to not drop another game to Frontier.......

Fort Frye will have Watson at QB.Skinner will be the workhorse.Slots WR return-Spencer Lang and Matt Klinger. The OL will be a strength- Luke SR Spindler SR Garvin SR Dixon JR then the 5th spot will be between newcomers Smith, Garrett Scott Fr,Drew LaytonFr.Wriston returns but I am not sure he can play both sides.Alex Herndon a 6-2 TE-Wr will return from injury and will help in the passing game and blocking.Chandler Lang and Jordon Anderson will be Freshman WR.On defense they will have a great front 7 with 6 returnees.Dixon,Wriston,Garvin, and Luke on the DL.Skinner LB,Spindler LB,and Herndon rounding it out.DBs could be a weakness but they all return Watson,Klinger,Lang with Chandler Lang stepping into help as well.Fort Frye plays an easy schedule. @ River, Green, Waterford, @ RV. They could be 4-0 again with the MC game at home week 5.

I'll get back to you on that, Kapono. I'm going to poll some coaches to see if they agree with your infinite wisdom.

And, you ought to be proud of that racist post of yours that got scrubbed off of this thread. And you teach kids. Oh boy..........

My pick is Monroe Central who since consolidation years ago has made many playoff appearances and continues to get to the point of seeming like they just reload every year with no drop off. Good program.

FOS - That is what continuity and great feeder programs will do for you in the small communities. When Skyvue and Woodsfield consolidated, it set the football program back a little bit, as the kids from Skyvue had never played football, and the additional enrollment moved a D VI program up to D V overnight.

Woodsfield had a very solid program before the consolidation, let's not lose sight of that. Having the same head coach for nearly 40 years and assistants who all played for Coach Circosta makes a big difference. Plus, the Sideliners club, with their financial support and volunteer labor, are second to none.

First class football facilities coupled with an outstanding weight lifting facility with ample mentoring, make for a great program. The people of Monroe county, with their financial and moral support, help to ensure that football is king in Woodsfield.

Steely Dan..I agree with all you said except for the last part.. Maybe the people of Woodsfield and Lewisville, not Monroe County..Remember there are two other schools in the county that loathe the Noles...Others in the county go to Frontier or Shenandoah...One even dropped us and outta the PVC after a 70+ to something score a few yrs back..So much for the Big Blue..But, I am sure the WHOLE county knows that Woodsfield is the King in Football

NL - That was a one and done, and everyone knew it going into the game last year. All kidding aside, Fed Hock played arguably one of the toughest schedules in SE Ohio last year, their opponents after week five were I believe 25-0 or 24-1, something like that. That included MC, FF, and Shenandoah from the PVC. No other TVC team has ever played more than one PVC in the regular season, including the TVC Ohio.

I'd love to see Trimble and NY play some of the PVC teams on a regular basis. Alexander was the cinderella last year in the TVC, and given Fed Hock's schedule, I'm not so sure that they would have entered week five last year at 4-0. As a matter of fact, I'm sure that they wouldn't.

Enough of that. Back to this fall, PVC. Still like the Noles by far, and it is a dogfight for second place.

As for your comments about the rest of the county, yes, you are keeping me honest, as much as I hate it! You are actually filling in the gaps of my foggy memory......

Can't wait until week one, it is going to be a great season this year!

Mike Luke will not be playing for Fort Frye and that will be a big blow.Monroe Central has lost a lot the last 2 seasons in Hogue,DLD,and Habig. They always seem to reload tho and barring injury they should win the league.Battle for 2nd comes down to Caldwell,Fort Frye, and Frontier.I do not know alot about Trail,River, and Shenandoah.Shenandoah has a really talented young Qb.Leisure should be pretty good as well.Brandon Starr is a very nice peice. Fort Frye has a great RB in Skinner and a great athlete in Watson is new to the spot at Qb but has been there a lot getting better. In terms of front 7 and skills guys like Herndon,Skinner,Klinger,Watson, both Lang boys they should be pretty good if Watson comes around.

The league could be up in the air now that Frontier has Jake Burnoni from Catholic. Also Jake MCmillon?? 6-4 300 lbs lineman from South will be playing for Fort Frye. Also Shon Smith from Fort Frye has decided to play and is a candiate at QB.

How ugly will the Week 1 game between Ridgewood and Buckeye Trail be? Will they (Trail) be any better than last year?

Until they play and show that they are worthy of discussion, your rumors are meaningless. "The league is up in the air"? Keep smoking what you've been smoking. MC with their returning talent, and coaching staff, is head and shoulders above everyone else.

hammer - Don't know much about BT this year, but I'd have to agree with you, Ridgewood should take that game easily, based on last year's BT team.

I would love to see a playoff matchup between MC and Ridgewood. I was hoping for one last year but it didn't happen. Two of the best coached teams in Eastern Ohio.

Burnoni was a stud a Catholic.Monroe Central returns like 4 or 5 starters what makes you think they are that much better then everyone else.Fort Fryes line will be huge.Fort Frye does have a big question mark at QB.I am still picking Monroe but will not be shocked if they get beat by Frontier,Caldwell,Or FF.Trail is probably the leagues worst team.Losing the teams best Qb,Rb,Fb,and top 2 lineman from a 1-9 team.

Thanks man. Some people are delusional. Playing for Parkersburg Catholic is like playing for Bishop Donahue, or Hundred, or McMechon, or Bellaire St. Johns.

Apple and orange comparisons are absolutely meaningless at this point.

I'll put all my eggs in the Monroe Central basket and let Chief Jay and his great staff lose it to the likes of Frontier (oh, what's that, they've won one time in 43 years against Woodsfield/Monroe Central) or Fort Frye. Yes, Kapono, I was at the FF game vs. Monroe last year, and MC played like crap and still stomped the Cadets. I'll be in Beverly this year on my SE Ohio Regular Season World Tour (I might have T-Shirts made up for that, just for sh*ts and giggles), to see the Monroe Central/Fort Frye showdown.

Tanner Robinson doesn't get hurt last year Fort Frye is a playoff team.He was just to fast the 1st 3 games and all the scrimmages FF scored a TD on every driver that Robinson was at Qb.I wish he could have played vs Monroe.Monroe probably still would have won but it would have been fun.Fort Frye will be very good and could be 4-0 going into the MC game.
