Re: Friday 12/6 games and scores

Hoopie74: I think that Trojan fans are hoping that this team can get to over .500........a modest goal for a team that went 8-16 last season. It's nice, though to start out 1-0.......but we have to play at South Point on Tuesday. That will be a tough test for our kids. Good luck to your Indians and ...

Re: Friday 12/6 games and scores

Portsmouth 65, Piketon 52......the Trojans outscored the Redstreaks 41-26 in the 2nd half. Matthew Fraulini scored 20, sophomore Daryionne Bryant had 14 in his varsity debut, and junior Chris Duff pitched in 12 off the bench. Coach Collins basically used a full court press for the entire game and it...

Re: Playoffs and the OVC

Portsmouth has a serious challenge going forward, having to replace the loss of 9 starters on a defense that was better this year but still not championship level. Talyn Parker is gone, as well as wideouts Eric Purdy and Bryce Wallace. The O-line does have 3 starters back, and QB Drew Roe, who I thi...

BBjunky81: I know you don't have them in your top 18, but keep an eye on Ironton. I saw them during the summer taking a good Jackson team to the wire. The Fighting Tigers have size, guards, shooters, and can go probably 7-8 deep. Normally I don't use summer ball as a measuring stick, but from what I...

Re: [=== OVC-MS Boys (2019-20) ===] -- Schedule/Results/Standings - Basketball

Tri-StateYouthSports: The Portsmouth 8th grade defeated South Point 58-48. I don't have the exact score of the 7th grade game, but SP won handily, something like 45-24.

Re: State Championship 14-0 Kirtland v the 13-1 Ironton Fighting Tigers

This is Ironton's 9th appearance in the state championship game.......to put this in perspective, that is as many appearances as these SE district schools combined: Athens (1), Wheelersburg (2), Portsmouth West (1), Sheridan (1), Nelsonville-York (1), Washington CH (1), and Trimble (2). I don't know...

Re: 2019-20 Buckeye Classic at Portsmouth

Don't the schedule for the Buckeye Elite, but I do know that Portsmouth will not be playing Greenfield McClain. Seems like there was a miscommunication of some sort, but the end result is that the Trojans and Tigers will not play.

Re: Week 14 - Ironton (12-1) vs West Jefferson (12-1)

Congratulations to the Fighting Tigers on their regional championship. They have represented their community and the OVC very well. Ironton can win this game, but at the Final 4 level, this is when turnovers and penalties will cost you the game. A team may get away with it in the earlier rounds, and...

Re: Preview Updates and Scores

I watched the first 3 games at the OVC preview, and honestly my Portsmouth Trojans had a very poor performance. 15 points in 2 quarters of basketball was a dismal showing, even if it is a preview. We didn't execute our half court offense, turned the ball over too much, didn't help out Miles Shipp on...

Re: OVC 2019-20

Rock Hill is my favorite OVC gym......I really like how the gym floor is set below the entrance. The lighting is really good and the scoreboards are easy to read with the white numerals. The OVC overall has some really nice gyms. I think that Ironton's is the oldest in the conference, dating back to...

Re: Out Of The Ashes? THE OKAC

I really liked the OKAC, which was not only a good football conference but a good basketball conference as well. I know Ironton won the state in 1989 and Ashland won the Class AAA state title in 1990 in football. Ashland, Boyd County, Greenup County, and Portsmouth all made their respective state to...

Thanks. Paulcrew, and you are correct on the year (1982). I should have looked it up instead of going by memory.

Re: South Point hits reset again.

If indeed that Coach Gifford resigned, I stand corrected......I was just going by what was previously posted. Still, the theme remains in SP that stability is much needed in that program.

Re: OVC 2019-20

Portsmouth opens up its OVC schedule at South Point. Last season, the 2 teams split, with each winning at home. The 2 games were decided by a total of 3 points.

Re: South Point hits reset again.

I think Coach Gifford deserved better........I saw a big improvement in the Pointers in just 1 year. The numbers were up, compared to 2 years ago when I saw only 5 kids standing on the SP sideline when they played at Portsmouth. You simply cannot keep changing coaches that often. At some point, the ...

Re: Previews

I'm going with biggdowgg to the OVC preview, but I'm not expecting anything that's going to determine how the conference will play out. Can't tell much with just 2 quarters of play, but at least we'll see some new players for each team. I know Ironton will be depleted due to the football playoffs.

LucasDavenport: I would like to see Massillon win the state title. Perhaps no other town in Ohio has as much passion for football as does Massillon. I have been to Paul Brown Tiger Stadium to watch the state championships, and that stadium is probably the mecca for Ohio high school football. Can you...

Re: OVC 2019-20

#21 for Portsmouth is Jesse Dixon, a 6-1 sophomore. Talked to Coach Collins about the Waverly scrimmage, and he told me that Dixon knocked down five 3's. Looks very much like Dixon could move into the starting lineup. PHS started 3 sophomores vs. Waverly, Drew Roe at PG, Dixon at the 2, and 6-2 Dari...

Re: State Tournament News and Notes

Great info, Lucas Davenport........I think that Moeller has evolved into a basketball school........back to back D1 state titles (5 total), 3 straight appearances in the D1 championship game. I remember watching Moeller vs. Massillon at Ohio Stadium in 1985 (Moeller won)......by far the biggest crow...
