Re: Portsmouth TROJANS 73 Huntington St Joe 43

The Trojans' quickness has been a big factor in their 3-0 start. They have caused a lot of turnovers, and have converted quite a few of those into fast buckets. Last year, Portsmouth was 3-0 when Coal Grove came to PHS gym and beat the Trojans 57-55 on an Aaron Music buzzer beater. As biggdowgg said...

Re: Pfloyd's Official "Un-official" Napkin Stats for the Piketon Tip Off

Very happy to see my Trojans get an opening win over a good Southeastern team. I said in preseason that the Trojans greatest attribute is their quickness, and it showed as they forced a number of Panther turnovers. Matthew Fraulini and Danny Lattimore carried the offensive load, but Miles Shipp, Myq...

Re: Waverly vs Athens

I really enjoyed watching this game. It was very physical, with players hitting the floor, hard fouls, and in your face defense. Both teams struggled to shoot the ball, but still the game was very entertaining. Waverly's defense made Athens work really hard on every possession, and that defensive me...

Re: Piketon Classic December 1

Looking forward to watching my Trojans vs. Southeastern Ross at the Oven. Piketon has a really nice gym. Would love to watch the last 2 games, but like biggdowgg, I'll be heading home to watch the Buckeyes.

Re: 2018/19 Portsmouth Trojans

Early returns on the Trojans are very favorable.......as biggdowgg said, they are quick and scrappy. They can get up and down the court in a hurry, and their defense could possibly lead the OVC in creating turnovers. Signs of inexperience are showing, especially against a good press like Waverly emp...

Re: 2018/2019 Waverly Tigers

Very enjoyable night at the Downtown Gym.......I was pleased with my Trojans play, considering that we've got 4 new starters and new players off the bench. It was evident that Portsmouth's quickness will cause a lot of problems for opposing teams. As biggdowgg said, there are things that the Trojans...

Re: Top 10 Players in the SE District

CGFan#1: Good rundown of the top players in the OVC. Music is really a good PG, and teamed with Borders give the Hornets a very good backcourt. Music, being a senior, most likely will be asked to score more this season. The player on Chesapeake you're referring to is Eli Archer, who scored 21 points...

Re: Top 10 Players in the SE District

I watched the Portsmouth scrimmage with biggdowgg, and Fraulini looks ready to have a great season. His perimeter jumper is as good as anyone in the SE district, and his ball handling skills are very good also. He crashed the boards as well several times, and his vertical is very respectable. One th...

Re: 2018/19 Diaper Dandies (Top Freshman)

Another freshman at Portsmouth who will probably see some varsity action at some point of the season is 5-9 Drew Roe, who has a nice all around game and an aggresive mentality in going to the basket.

With Amare Johnson, Daryionne Bryant, and Drew Roe, the Trojans' freshmen class looks really strong.

Re: Top 10 Players in the SE District

pfloyd: No mention of Matthew Fraulini of Portsmouth? He averaged 14 PPG as a sophomore, led PHS in scoring, with several games well over 20. I saw your list of your top 28 players, and I personally saw 14 of them last season. There's no question that Fraulini belongs on that list somewhere, and in ...

5-8 Amare Johnson of Portsmouth........grandson of Larry Johnson, member on the 1980 Trojan state runnerup team; he will be the starting PG for the Trojans. He is a super quick dynamo of energy, and skill wise is an outstanding ball handler. His on-ball defense is tenacious, and his shooting has imp...

Re: 2018/19 OVC

It should be an interesting OVC season with everyone trying to knock off Gallia Academy. It would be a major upset if the Blue Devils didn't win the title, and not only should they win it, but a perfect OVC record is a strong possibility. They'll probably have at least a couple of close conference g...

Pa Trojan: There is an official OVC schedule on www.trojanhoops.org. It's on the very first article at the top of page 1. I don't have the official dates of the non-conference games, but that should be coming soon.

Re: 2018/19 OVC

Watching the Trojans in practice, I am super excited about how athletic they are. Without question, this might be the quickest team in Coach Collins' 10 years. Overall athleticism is the best since the 2015 regional final team. I'm not saying the Trojans will win the OVC, as it's Gallia Academy's to...

Re: Madison 26 Portsmouth 0 Round 1 Region 20 2018

A big thank you to the Trojans and the coaching staff for a very good and fun season. Playing in week 11 for the first times in 11 years was a real treat. Madison was the better team, no doubt, but our boys in Red and Blue competed, especially on defense. Considering the level of competition, that m...

Re: What are some of the best teams SEO has ever seen?

The Portsmouth Trojans have had 15 teams advance to the state tournament, capturing 4 state titles, but 2 teams stand out as far as the best in PHS history. The 1961 Trojans won the BIG school state championship (only 2 classes then) with a 22-3 record, beating Elyria in the semifinals 54-52 and Urb...

Re: Can everyone take a look at the Portsmouth Trojans (7-3) with first year head coach Kalb

Coach Kalb, in this his first season, accomplished something that many, including me, thought was not possible. He led his Portsmouth Trojans to a 7-3 record and a week 11 appearance in the OHSAA playoffs. I don't think that the expectations were quite that for Portsmouth heading into the season, bu...
