Re: Ironton vs wheelersburg 2019

tigernation2019: I am a Portsmouth Trojan fan and alumnus, and I don't care who wins. I didn't say Wheelersburg won every year of the decade, just that they have dominated the series during this time. Since you wanted me to check my stats, here they are: Here are the series scores from 2010-2018: 20...

Re: 2020 Girls Tourney, 2021 Boys Tourney to St. John Arena

Great to see the state tournaments go back to St.John Arena.........I watched my Trojans play there 4 times (1978, 1980, 1988, 1990), coming away with 2 state titles and 2 runnerups. Portsmouth also won the 1961 state title there. With the attendance at the state tournament dwindling by the year, 13...

Re: Portsmouth question

There was also Clarence Parker (Clancy) who played QB for the Trojans around 1970. Add to the list Carlos Parker, who I think he played in the late 80's or early 90's, and of course there was Michael, JoJo, Bradley, Curtis, and Talyn. There was another Carlos Parker who was a member of the 1931 Port...

Don't have the official Trojan schedule, but I do know that Portsmouth opens the season at South Point which will be a tough first game. The Trojans are also going to Florida over Christmas break for 3, maybe 4 games.

Re: OVC FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS THIS YEAR.

I always look forward to making the trip to Memorial Stadium in Gallipolis......a classic, old time venue with the staircase entrance and exit. I just hope that the field is in better condition than what I've seen it in years past. There's no fans in the OVC that have a more unique view than the peo...

Re: Pfloyd's Elite 8 of Southern/SouthEast Ohio - Pre Season 2019-20 ...

Pfloyd: A few notes about some teams I saw this summer: I saw North Adams demolish my Trojans, and they are very good. Really good starting 5, size to go with it, and depth off the bench. Of course summer ball is not necessarily a true indicator of a team, but in the case of the Green Devils, what I...

Re: 2019 Ironton Tigers Outlook

Ironton actually has won 6 state championships in team sports. The football team won titles in 1979 and 1989, the golf team won 3 straight state titles in 1995, 1996, and 1997, and the baseball team won the state title in 1972. Ironton also has a number of individual state champions in track, boys a...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2019

Watched a few minutes of practice last night, and was very encouraged to see the team diligently working on the passing game.......there were a lot of reps from several QB's. Have no idea who the frontrunner for the position is, but the fact that the coaching staff is putting strong emphasis on pass...

Re: Division V rankings and early speculation

Portsmouth cannot afford to lose to Ironton and West, two teams that should give big computer points if the Trojans can defeat them. PHS most likely will have to beat at least one of those teams to have any chance of the playoffs because there are a few OVC schools that won't give many secondary poi...

Re: Wheelersburg will be 0 - 3 going into week 4

At worst, Wheelersburg will go 8-2 or 7-3. With that schedule, there's no shame in that. The Pirates will once again be in the playoffs and no one will be anxious to see them in round 1 or 2.

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2019

Beergogglesbluez and Proud Pirate 63 brings up excellent points about the Trojans passing attack...... establish a QB that can make plays with his arm, and utilize receivers that can get open and take pressure off the run game (Talyn Parker). We must be able to throw the ball effectively when needed...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2019

I went to practice yesterday to see how many kids came out......and I counted 42, give or take 1 or 2. Depth, as beergogglebluez said, will definitely be an issue. Good to hear that they are running a lot.......with the numbers being rather low, conditioning is that much more important. The Trojans ...

I have a lot of respect for Ironton making the state championship game 8 times. In no way does going 2-6 in those games take anything away from the Fighting Tigers great football history.

Chesapeake not only lost Eli Archer, but starting wing Tylan Hutchison. The Panthers will still be good, but those are two big losses for the Peake.

Re: Ironton vs wheelersburg 2019

According to the preseason rankings, Ironton (#5) is going into the game as the favorite over the Burg (#10). I don't put much stock in those rankings, especially with the way that the Pirates have dominated the Fighting Tigers over the last decade. Probably the only reason that IHS was rated higher...

Re: How has the game changed?

I think one very noticeable change has been the participation numbers which for many schools are down considerably. Wheelersburg is the exception rather than the new normal, and 8 man football is starting to gain momentum around the state for smaller schools. I know at Portsmouth, we have struggled ...

Re: OVC FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS THIS YEAR.

Two things will make Portsmouth a serious contender for the OVC title: 1. A better defense.......the Trojans allowed 28 or more points 5 times last season, way too many to win a conference title. Ironton (28), Chesapeake(39), Coal Grove(36), and Gallia Academy(36) all scored at least 28 points vs. P...

I'm an Indians fan, but I know enough about the Reds to say that despite their place in the standings, they are on the right track for the near future. Wish Josh the best......we just lost a coach who knows the game and was a very good player himself. Re: What teams not on the schedule would you like to play?

I've said it many times before and I'll say it again........Portsmouth absolutely should play Wheelersburg. No matter the outcome, it's just one game on the schedule, and the Trojans made the playoffs last season with a 7-3 record. It's still embarrassing that we don't play them, a school that is in...

Re: Conference picks in the SEO District for 2019-20 ... What say you?

Evaluating conference picks made me think of a trivia fact about the Portsmouth Trojans. Portsmouth has more appearances in the state tournament (15) than they have conference championships (14). I don't think there's another school in the SE district that can make that claim and probably very few i...

Re: Conference picks in the SEO District for 2019-20 ... What say you?

I'm only going to pick the OVC, which is the conference I'm most familiar with. The 2019-2020 OVC forecast: 1. Fairland........has enough coming back from last year's conference champions to be the favorite again, although I think they will not go through the conference slate with just 1 loss......A...
