Re: 2018/19 Portsmouth Trojans

The Trojans' loss last night to Adena ended the decade of 2010-2019. Here's how Portsmouth fared for these 10 years: 2010-2019: Overall record: 163-80.......Coach Eugene Collins record: 163-80 Year by year record: 2010: 12-7 2011: 21-5 2012: 24-3 (tied the 1990 team for 2nd best record in school his...

Adena will have to really step up their game if they want to beat Ironton, which handled Portsmouth rather easily during the regular season.

Re: ADENA V PORTSMOUTH

Congratulations to the Warriors on the win.......and VERY PROUD of my Trojans on a GREAT EFFORT!!.......Portsmouth had the recipe for the upset, but turnovers really hurt PHS in the final 8 minutes. The Trojans were much quicker than Adena, and Coach Collins' man to man defense was giving the Warrio...

Re: 2018/19 Portsmouth Trojans

Coach Eugene Collins will be back for the 2019-2020 season, which will mark his 11th at PHS. It would tie him in longevity with Red Hopkins, who coached the Trojans from 1926-1936. Hopkins compiled a record of 168-58, with 5 state appearances, 1 state championship, and 1 state runnerup. Collins has ...

Re: (28) Grove City at (11) Logan D1 TOURNAMENT

The Central District is very formidable in D1 with Dublin Coffman and Hillard Bradley, teams that have a good shot at the regionals or perhaps the state.

Re: ADENA V PORTSMOUTH

I do think it is very important for the Trojans to not fall behind early.....say 8-10 points. Portsmouth is not a catch up team due to their offensive struggles. I also think that Portsmouth's quickness will be an asset on defense. Coach Collins had an aggressive defensive plan against West and stay...

Re: 2018/19 Portsmouth Trojans

VetteMan: You're right about the first game between West and the Trojans.......the Senators did hit a lot of 3's in that game (8 or 9), with Jesse Johnson scoring 22, mostly on 3's. This past Monday the Trojans did a better job of guarding the perimeter, and it gave us a much better chance to win th...

Two that I have seen quite a bit are Aaron Music of Coal Grove and Ethan Wilson of Ironton. Both of them could hold their own against anybody else that's mentioned on this topic.

Re: 2/22 - Ironton (5) vs Oak Hill (4) @ Jackson 8:30

This is the best matchup in either D3 sectional because either team is good enough to go to the regionals. Probably the only sectional matchup in which that claim could be made. I favor Ironton in this game, but it will be very important for the Fighting Tigers to get on top early, because I think t...

Re: 2018/19 Portsmouth Trojans

Portsmouth started sectional tournament play with a thrilling 47-46 win over Portsmouth West. After a fast 5-0 start by the Trojans, West controlled the game throughout, but a number of missed FT's in the 4th quarter kept the Trojans in the game, and at the buzzer, MyQuel McKinley made a short jumpe...

Re: Portsmouth v Portsmouth West 2/18 6:15 @ Waverly

Very proud of our the Trojans for the win......and a salute to the West kids for playing as hard as they could. As Moses Guthrie said, the Senators did a great job of defending Matthew Fraulini......the 11 points he did score, though, were very important indeed. Very happy for a great kid like Myque...

wipala: You have a right to your opinion; if you had seen this team play, you would easily come to the conclusion that this Trojan team is seriously offensively challenged. Going forward, looking into next year, if the Trojans don't find some offense between now and 2019-2020, they can play all the ...

Re: 2018/19 Portsmouth Trojans

This Trojan team is in undesirable company in regards to the history of Portsmouth basketball. Only 8 other Trojan teams have lost at least 15 games in a season. The 1946, 1958, 1962, 1993, 1996, 2005, 2006, and 2007 teams all lost at least 15 games, and that is dating back to 1913. The all time rec...

Re: 2018/19 Portsmouth Trojans

Moses Guthrie: Your post is very accurate; the lack of defense has been quite apparent in many games; I too have seen way too many uncontested layups and poor closeouts on 3 pointers. You bring up a good point about the athleticism of the Trojans. I believe like you that we can match up with every t...

Re: Could Parker be the next "Great SEO Hope" ?

I hope that Talyn has an injury free, outstanding senior season and another playoff appearance......he has been fun to watch, and we won't see another one like him for quite a while at PHS. He would certainly look good in Scarlet and Gray.

Re: Eastern pike has won 20 straight games. How far can they go in the tourney??

I think Evan Leist is the key to Eastern's success in the tournament. Even though Evan has a good cast around him, how he plays will be critical to a tourney run by the Eagles. It is always important in the postseason how your PG plays, and I think Evan will be up to the challenge.

Re: Warren @ Chillicothe 2/15

This is a game which was always one of the marquee matchups in the former SEOAL. There was one game several years ago where Warren's Evan French dropped in 40 on the Cavaliers at Hatton Gymnasium. Chillicothe also won at Warren when the conference title was on the line, and I believe the Cavaliers w...

Re: 2018/19 Portsmouth Trojans

I feel for Matthew Fraulini, because he has had to work really hard for the points he's scored. In so many games he has been shadowed all over the court, yet he still is averaging 17 PPG. The other night vs. Fairland, he did a really good job rebounding, and I've seen him in many games making some g...

Re: Upsets?

Portsmouth may not even get a chance to play Adena if the Trojans don't beat West......and a loss to the Senators is a very real possibility. They already had a very easy 61-47 win in December......and at one point in the game, had a 20 point lead. I think that Ironton could end up in the regionals....

Re: State Tourney Dilemma, Attendance

I went to the state tournament for almost 35 years, but don't go anymore.......rarely was the weather nice, and that is a factor when you have to leave the building after every game and wait for the doors to open for the next session. Most years that I went I would go to all the semifinals, and then...

Fairland is playing really well, and I definitely would not count them out if that game were played. The Burg would be the favorite, and should be, but the Dragons a dangerous underdog.

Re: 2018/19 Portsmouth Trojans

PtownClown: I could talk about other areas that need improvement, but I do believe that the biggest problem facing us for the 2019-2020 season is shooting. When you can score, it doesn't put nearly as much pressure on your defense to create turnovers and score off them.

The players you mentioned have potential, but having potential...
