Re: Time for Saint Joe to bring back football?

I kind of disagree about Steubenville being the worse Diocese. If you look closely at Columbus they are closing down parishes all over their area. Just take Portsmouth for an example. Saint Monica's in New Boston, shut down. The average of parishioners per priest in the Columbus Diocese is 1800 to ...

Re: Time for Saint Joe to bring back football?

Last year's graduating class had 8 boys and 3 girls. These 11 students generated over 2 million dollars in college scholarships. How does the school stay open. The families of the 48 kids who go there work to keep it open. The percentage of students who go on to the next level in education is close ...

Re: Time for Saint Joe to bring back football?

All ISJ sport’s regular season schedule are usually very weak! I would not say they are competitive. This years boys soccer opponents have a combined record of 2-13-4!! Very rare for them to win a sectional games in sports, let alone a district championship. They may have a few athletic class come ...

Re: Time for Saint Joe to bring back football?

I don't think there is enough kids at St. Joe for football. @RiverRatRay ? It's not just the numbers but the expenses that go with a football program. Father Huffman when he was here looked into resuming football but found this out. There is a new EdChoice Expansion program started by the State thi...

Re: Terry the Tiger.. Ironton

Not to knock this year's Ironton team but wait until next year when they will put Terry with Williams and Edwatds. This is going to be a sight to behold. Thacker was 9 for 13 passing for 223 yards and 4 tds. He ran 10 times for 75 yards and 1 td. His QB rating was 156.3. He is improving every game. ...

Re: WK3 2-0 Fairland v 2-0 Ironton (OVC CHIP)?

Moeller beat Ironton 25 to 7. Ironton held them to less points than any of their other opponents.

Ironton beat Fairland last year 35 to 14.not even a close game. Ironton beat Fairland worse than Moeller beat Ironton

Re: 2023 Ironton Tigers

If it was 6 to 3 that is what it was last year if I'm not mistaken. Glad to see them scrimmage a talented team. You don't get much out of someone you can outclassed.

Re: 2023 Ironton Tigers

Never assume anything. Not needed as a running back. The ones that were used also needed the work. Pittman not playing let the coach see who might be his best backup. Waverly has a lot of work to do. Dline was non-existent. WRs dropped too any passes. Running game never got started. I would say the ...

Re: 2023 Ironton Tigers

I'm thinking Anderson is D2. One other thing about the Waverly scrimmage, Pittman didn't play due to a stomach virus. Needless to say he wasn't needed in this scrimmage.

Re: 2023 Ironton Tigers

Ironton looked good on offense and the defense held Waverly to only crossing the 50 once and on the very next play they lost yardage to put them back into their end of the field. Next week will be a better gauge on how good Ironton is. Weakness are Dbacks and maybe center. Several bad snaps and Dbac...

Re: Scrimmages

Ironton girls beat Chesapeake 9 to 0 in the OVC Preview. I counted 4 girls who are from St Joe now and formerly. I really don't know the younger girls that well so there may be more.

Re: Soccer vs. Football

Soccer is played in every country in the world. Football in the USA and Canada. That pretty much tells you which is more popular internationally. The other game they call football in foreign countries is called Rugby. This is more like American football only these players do not wear pads.

Re: 2023 Season

The OVC is having a soccer preview at South Point. They put Ironton against Gallia. Must be that none of the OVC teams want anything to do with Gallia. From what I have seen with Gallia the last few years, no one in the OVC will come close to beating them. As far as numbers for soccer, I was told Ir...

Re: Scrimmages

Ironton has had 2 scrimmages so far. Portsmouth West and Rock Hill. Ironton is a very young team with what I counted as 17 players. The Ironton girls will probably pick up a few girls from St Joe since they do not have a girls team. If Ironton picks up the St Joe girls they will be more competitive ...

Estel Ottney

This morning this tremendous Wheelersburg Pirate fan gained her wings. She was one of the first posters to ever post on SEOPS. Although she hasn't posted much on the site, I'm sure she was an avid reader especially when it came to her Pirates. Estel might have been the first person on Social Media t...

Re: Ironton vs South Range - D5 State Championship

Pasteur does a great job but man, I just can't see Ironton being 15 point dogs here. They absolutely have the talent to compete (and beat) anyone in D5, even the "favorite." The only way I can see them losing by double digits is if they turn the ball over 2-3 times. I checked his predicti...

Re: Ironton vs South Range - D5 State Championship

43 years ago this same Ironton school made a trip to Akron to play Akron St Vincent St Marys for the State Championship in the Akron Rubber Bowl. What do you think their chances were at that time to pull off a victory in those conditions. My mother ask me before I made the trip what I thought their ...

Re: Possible return of Bishop Flaget HS? Future of ISJ?

The merging of the Diocese of Steubenville and the Diocese of Columbus was put on hold due to the results of a survey taken by the Diocese of Steubenville. Over 60 % of the people taking the survey were against the merger. The future of the schools were one of the issues.
