Arthur Lydiard Classic & New Zealand Night

Post by SPTrack »

As part of the Arthur Lydiard Classic being held on April 27th @ South Point High School, we are presenting "New Zealand Night" on Thursday April 26th at 6:30pm, at the school. The night is free and is open to everyone in the area. Distance running legend Anne Audain from New Zealand will be our special guest. Anne, who was an orphan as a child, had to overcome the handicap of being born with two club feet. She was bullied and made fun of until at the age of 14 she was able to have both feet surgically repaired. Two years later she was on her country's Olympic team, and followed that will a world record in the 5,000 meters and became one of the most successful road racers of all time. She is considered the first professional female distance runner.Anne finished in the top three in all her races, 90% of the time.
Also appearing will be the world famous Kahurangi Maori Dance and Singing group also from New Zealand. They will present traditional Maori dances and songs. Also at the event from the New Zealand Embassy in Washington DC, will be the First Secretary of Trade and Commerce, Terry Meikle.
We would love to have you join us.

The Lydiard Classic will feature 16 teams from West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio and will begin at 5:00pm. Anne Audain will present all the awards to the winners of the distance events, which are named after some of Arthur's most famous runners.
