Jim Osborne to be honored Labor Day weekend

Living legend Jim Osborne, Gallia Academy High School basketball coach from 1969 to 2010 will be honored over the upcoming Labor Day weekend. In addition to being the boy’s basketball coach for 41 years, Osborne also coached baseball and tennis teams for numerous seasons at GAHS.

All former players, assistant coaches, opposing coaches, officials, and friends of Oz are invited to the weekend’s events.

On Saturday, Sept. 4, a banquet will be held at the University of Rio Grande in the Davis Center. The program will recognize Coach Osborne for his years of leadership, dedication to the GAHS athletic program, and the immeasurable positive influence, which he has had upon the community.

The evening begins with a social hour at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the program. The cost of the banquet will be $25 per person.

The following day, Sunday, Sept. 5, the Jim Osborne Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Cliffside Golf Course in Gallipolis. Tee off time for the four-person scramble will be 2 p.m. Entry fee will be $50 for members and $60 for non-members. A cookout meal is included.

Reservation for the Sept. 4 banquet is Wednesday, Sept. 1. Checks should be made out to the University of Rio Grande and mailed to:
