GAHS tennis team tops Chillicothe 3-2
for first victory over Cavs in six years
Host Gallipolis Gallia Academy’s tennis team edged visiting Chillicothe 3-2 on the Eastman Athletic Complex course Wednesday evening. The win left GAHS 3-2 on the season and the triumph was Gallia’s first over the Cavs since 2006.

The Blue Devils won the third singles and first and second doubles to capture the match. Chillicothe won the first and second singles matches. In the first singles, Gallia’s Kelle Craft lost to Adams, 6-4, 6-4. Alex Gaguras lost his match to Preston, 6-1, 6-3.

In third singles action, Gallia’s Connor Christian, a freshman, defeated Hirsch, 6-1, 6-3.

Jared Lester-Zack Stewart defeated Chillicothe’s Gilliland-Piekarski. 6-1, 6-3 in the first doubles. Riley Nibert-Sean Saltzgaber defeated King-Sarks 6-3, 6-1 to wrap up the victory.

The Blue Devils next match is Friday at home against Wheelersburg at 5 p.m. Next Monday, powerful Athens will invade the GAHS courts for a 4:30 p.m. match.

After five matches, Gallia’s Nibert and Saltzgaber are 5-0. Christian is 3-1, Lester 3-2, Stewart 2-1, Gaguras 2-2, Craft and Sharma 1-2, Sbastion 0-1.
