GAHS netters win 4th match, 4-1

Topple Wheelersburg Pirates
Gallia Academy’s tennis team won its fourth match of the season Friday by turning back visiting Wheelersburg 4-1 in a non-league match on the Gallipolis courts in Centenary.

In the first singles match, Galilee’s Jared Lester defeated Hills, 6-3, 6-0. In second singles action, Sack Stewart lost to Wheelersburg’s Roe, 6-2, 6-3. In third singles action, Gallia’s Connor Christian defeated Crowder, 6-4, 6-3.

The Blue Devils won both doubles events. Kelle Craft-Sean Saltzgaber downed Hiles-Felipe, 6-4, 7-5, 8-6, and Alex Gagucas-Riley Nibert defeated Ali-McD, 6-4, 6-1.

Galilee Academy’s next match is at home against non-league Athens on Monday, April 16. The Blue Devils are now 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in SEOAL action.

After six GAHS matches, Christian is 4-1, Craft 2-2, Gagucas 3-2, Lester 4-2, Nibert and Saltzgaber 6-0, Sebastion 0-1, Stewart 2-2 and Shama 1-2.

In another SEOAL match Wednesday, Portsmouth downed Jackson, 3-2. Trevor Violette defeated Jackson’s O. J. Blair, 6-9, 6-0 in one singles. The Trojans Tanner Hatcher defeated Steve Derth 6-0, 6-9 in number 2 singles. In number three singles, Portsmouth’s Evan Hicks defeated Clay Wood, 6-2.

In number one doubles, Portsmouth’s Robbie and Zack Shugerts defeated Alec Osborne-Aaron Kirby 7-6, 2-, 6-2. In number two doubles, Jackson’s Morgan Coyan-Joey McNelly defeated Katherine Meriwether-Lori Keaton, 6-4, 7-6.
