Gallia's Craft, Saltzgaber advance in tourney

Gallipolis Gallia Academy’s Kelle Craft and Sean Saltzgaber advanced to district play in the 2012 sectional tennis tourney at Portsmouth over the weekend.
The duo won three straight matches over Washington CH, Portsmouth Clay and Unioto. Third seeded Lucasville Valley upended the Gallipolitans.
The GAHS pair downed Wheelersburg and New Boston to earn a No. 5 seed in the May 19 district match.
Other Blue Devil players were eliminated from further play in the tournament. Connor Christian defeated players from Unioto and Lucasville in No 2 singles before losing to a Hillsboro player.
Gallia’s No. 2 doubles (Alex Gagucas-Riley Nibert) defeated New Boston but was ousted by No. I seed Waverly.
Gallia’s Jared Lester and Zack Stewart were eliminated in No. 1 and No. 3 singles by Portsmouth Notre Dame.
