93Bulldog....Thanks for the kind words and the plug.

Just two weeks from tonight, we'll have our first winners for the season.

I'm one of the few in the state that gets to see two games in the opening weekend:

Chesapeake at Oak Hill Friday night and Jackson at Wellston Saturday night

Keyser,

Very good article as usual. My only question is this. While N-York defeated Wellston the week prior to the Belpre upset win over the Buckeyes in 2007, it eventually had to be forfeited to Wellston because of the ineligible player. So on the field, they had 24 straight TVC wins, but wouldn't it really be 23 in the record books? That is still quite a mark for the Buckeyes to hang their hat on for sure.

Just wondering.

Run Bubba Run....Thank you for the kind words. BTW, your book on the first 40 years of Vinton County football history is also a great reference tool I have utilized in the past.

It indeed should be noted that Nelsonville-York had 24 straight on-the-field TVC-Ohio victories, and after the forfeit later on to Wellston of three years ago, the official recordbooks will show 23 straight.

Good article...I'm ready for some football. One note on the article...Doug Chapman (two-way started on the line) DID graduate. He is heading to Wooster and will be playing baseball. He's an outstanding student, athlete and young man!

Bulldog Mom.....Thanks for the kind words on the article.

I cited last season's all-TVC-Ohio list that I had, which had Doug Chapman listed as a junior.

My apologies for the error.

Is their a better time of year than right now? The Dog Days of summer are without a doubt the best days on the calendar ... Summer nights are cooling off - you can hear marching bands practicing (if you live near a school) - all the gridiron fans are giddy about their teams' potential ... Its awesome ... I love it.

Just a few weeks away and we'll get to hear the helmets start cracking - coaches barking from the sideline - and fans cheering as daylight turns to dusk during opening weekend of football in Southeastern Ohio!

Thx again Paul for the article ... I'll try and have a Hocking Division preview completed by the weekend for those interested in the 'small school division.'
