Gsllipolis tops Meigs 38-33
in pre-season grid preview

Host Gallipolis outscored Meigs 38-33 in a pre-season preview game on Memorial Field Friday night.

It was a game of two halves. The Blue Devils varsity downed the Marauders in the first half, 38-13. The Marauders blanked GAHS 20-0 in the final two quarters.

GAHS Coach Wade Bartholmew used at least 13 different backs in the preview while Meigs Coach Mike Bartram used at least 12 backs.

Gallipolis led 21-7 after a lengthy first period. The Blue Devils led 38-13 at intermission.

In the second half, MHS blanked the Gallians, 20-0.

Gallipolis picked up 18 first downs in the melee while Meigs recorded 17.

Gallipolis totaled around 244 yards rushing in 52 ground plays and three TDs while Meigs totaled around 288 in 28 ground plays and scored three TDs.

GAHS completed around 11 of 19 passes (one intercepted) for around 229 yards and two touchdowns. Meigs completed around 10 of 21 aerials for 133 yards (one intercepted) and a TD. Kalieb Sheets had the Meigs interception while Logan Allison had the Blue Devil interception.

Gallipolis was penalized six times for 85 yards. MHS was penalized six times for 65 yards.

Scoring summary:

First period:

Logan Allison, 14-yard pass from Wade Jarrell. Dylan Saunders, kick. Reid Eastman, 18-yard pass from Wade Jarrell. Dylan Saunders, kick. Michael Davis, 17-yard pass from Kalieb Sheets, Ty Phelps, kick.
Eric Ward, five yard run, Dylan Saunders, kick.

Second period:

Michael Davis, 69-yard run, kick fail. Reid Eastman, 75-yard pass from Wade Jarrell, Dylan Saunders, kick. Logan Allison, 49-yard run, Dylan Saunders, kick. Dylan Saunders, 36-yard field goal.

Third period:

Chris Lester, 84-yard run. Tanner Vanaman, kick.

Fourth period:

Damon Jones, five-yard pass from Kalieb Sheets, Tanner Vanaman, kick.

Jordan Hutton, 61-yard pass from Kalieb Sheets. Tanner Vanaman, kick.

Jottings , for your stats wade jarrel is the Gallia QB wes is his younger brother.

Thanks. My mistake. Wade was nine of 10 for 219 yards and three TDs.

I think the 4th period stats for Meigs are incorrect. Vanaman is no longer on the team and was not kicking in the 4th. Both TD's in the 4th period were by Trae Hood from quarterback Cody Bartrum. Kicks were Josh Schwabe. Hood also had a long TD run from Bartrum that was called back on a penalty.

Just went by the Meigs program which said No. 42 was Tanner and No. 5 was listed as Trey and No. 11 Jordan. Sorry.
