Final: Waverly 49 Zane Trace 14

Post by MasterOfNone »

Last years game was lopsided with the Tigers prevailing 48-3. Waverly is coming off one of the biggest wins for the program in recent seasons, defeating a very nice Athens team. Zane Trace seemed to struggle in their week one loss to Logan Elm.

Thoughts?

I think the Tigers take the win on the road and improve to 2-0

Always respect your opponent, but this game might be Waverly's only opportunity to heal up and build some experienced depth going forward. The Tigers will have tough games the rest of the way

Hopefully all Tigers are as healthy as they were going into the Athens game, no injuries worsened.
Maybe get Wolf a few more reps and possibly a few defensive plays. He didn’t see any defense action against Athens.
Like Omega said, would be nice to get a few more youngsters some action as we head into a tough schedule (Unioto, Amanda, Fairland, and then league action).

Zane Trace has been struggling in recent years and I just think they'll run into a team far more athletic than them on Friday night. Look for Waverly to try and put this one away early and rest up players and get players who are out closer to returning. I believe I've heard Wolfe is slated to return in week 3 against Unioto. Shoemaker runs wild again and Waverly puts a running clock on ZT.

Yes, Wolfe has been slated to return week 3 for some time. He saw action for a series during the scrimmage against Portsmouth and a couple offensive plays against Athens.

There was a lot of hype with the Athens game and rightly so. Waverly will have to guard against any let down which is not easy to do. I'm sure ZT will be ready for their home opener.

On a side note: We always enjoy checking out the "BIG HILL" next to the field. That thing is a monster!

It poured the entire meet last year and one runner just slid down 2/3 of the hill lol

Zane Trace field is pretty sweet

It rained two years ago when Waverly played at Zane Trace and Haydn Shanks completed his first varsity pass in that game.
Should be good weather and looking for Shanks to complete several passes.....

Waverly will have to be careful to not look past Zane Trace. That being said I do not think Coach Crabtree and the staff will let that happen. Looks like a perfect night for high school football as far as the weather goes.
