You Make The Call

Post by Kurgan74 »

Football Season is almost here.

Let’s do a game scenario and you make the call.

The offense has the ball at the opponent’s 9 yard line.
The Qb rolls to the left and fires a pass into the endzone.
The Corner picks it off in the endzone and starts to return it out. The intended WR strips the ball from the corner while in
the endzone and the balls rolls forward out of bounds at the 3. During the attempted return a linebacker blocks an offensive lineman below the waist at the 9.

What do we have?

Just a guess. It would be a post possession foul.It should be personal foul or 15yrd penalty on the intercepting team.So half the distance from the spot of the foul first and 10 intercepting team?

Ball is a turnover and ball placed at 1 1/2 yard line. The defensive was in the act of trying to make a return when the ball was knocked loose.

Ok here is the answer.

Per high school rules a fumble that rolls forward returns
to the spot of the fumble (end of the run) and in this case
that is the endzone. The offense will accept the penalty on the return team and it will be enforced from the end of the run (endzone).

As a result, the intercepting team will have a penalty in
their own endzone, thus this will be a safety.

If there had not been a penalty on the return, we would
have a touchback.

I don’t think this is correct. The answer should be in 10-4-5d or 10-4-6.

The basic spot for penalties that do not occur in the end zone on plays in which a turnover occurs is the 20-yard line.

The section on safeties only refers to penalties where the basic spot is the goal line, I believe? As in penalties that occur in the end zone.
