Paladin's Play-off Finals

Post by Paladin »

In order , as they occur

D-V In an upset, Youngstown Ursuline over Marion Local. This one could be real close. But mistakes/turn-overs will be the difference. McQueen could have a field day. Calpreps has Marion Local.

D-III Big Walnut over Licking Valley. Another game that could go either way. Picking the D from a bigger league to shut down a Valley running attack.

D-II Louisville over Anderson. Leps are stong on D, important in the Champ game. And they had the better schedule.

D-VI Hopewell over Newark Catholic. Better D should prevail.

D- IV Mooney over Coldwater. This will be close first half. Cards will pull away in the second. Dominate run game & tough D carry Mooney.

D-I This one I have problems with. I'll pick St. X over Mentor and I like Mentor, but X. has played like crap all tournament long as the favorite. Tanski is the player of the year in D-I for good reason. He wins games and if he has the hot hand, Mentor will win. Prohibitive favorite is X, but Mentor won't be a surprise.

So far 12 for 12 in the Semi's. 100%

Paladin,

Now there is Paladin Envy. You do a great job picking winners. It was a close game. I am betting you will do better in other games.

Ya gotta like both Youngstown teams going down, especially the unbeatable Mooney bunch ...

I'm getting my azz beat !!

One thing for sure................. lots of folks around Ytown laughing. Coldwater played a great game, throwing up a 6-3 D that cut the Mooney run game down. Coaches would have liked to have done that to them in season. If McCarthy hadn't have gotten injured & missed this game, they would have thrown alot vs a 2 deep secondary .

Lots of close games. Seen 3 so far. St. X up next.

Finished 2-4. Not great. 14-4 overall for semi's & finals.

Thought Ursuline had a real shot for the upset. Close , but no cigar.

Big Nut won as expected. 8)

Anderson had a real weapon with the 6'7 WR. He was unstoppable.

Thought Nerk Cath was a real upset. Sports writers didn't pick them either.

Coldwater was an upset. Get credit to them, playing a 6-3 D and daring Mooney to throw. They don't much passing with Marlowe so Coldwater shut down the Mooney run game. Add in the trick O plays and Coldwater gets the upset. Parochials losing is a good thing. :-D

X was dominate, both sides of the ball.Picked that one right

CalPreps picked Marion Local. ML was also top rated in the state polls. Even area sportswriters picked ML.

I went against the grain as Ursuline had a 35 lbs average advantage per man on the lines over ML. Also had a dual threat QB which the MAC rarely sees. And they play credible teams from D-I thru D-III. Much better competition than the MAC. Also several D-I players on Ursuline.

Two plays killed them-- blocked punt for TD and late INT.

The MAC does an unbelievable job of taking average players , teaching great techniques and playing solid O & D game plans. And not making mistakes to beat themselves with.

You did a nice job picking and strirring some people up. It's hard to pick tossup games and thats what most of these were. It is good to see parochial schools lose ,even though my kids went to them through Jr. High. Our Catholic school here doesn't have 9-12.
