paladin, i nearly agreed with an entire post of yours for once. there is open enrollment. and i don't agree with it. never have. even though i transferred my kids from rock hill to ironton myself. i lived on the extreme borders of the rock hill school district where i called home for 30 years. but it made good economical sence for our family , in several ways. hear me out. it was 16 miles 1 way, from my house to rock hill's school complex. it was 8 miles from my driveway to ironton's parking lot. when your kids get involved in sports the bus is no longer an option, when your kids are too young to drive. so you are constantly traveling 32 miles round trip to pickup kids from sports practices. plus we adopted a biracial son , we had in foster care. when he was 5. since there was only like 1 other black family in the rock hill school district at the time. i felt i was kind of robbing my son of part of his heritage that i could not provide for him, in an all white school setting. i loved the rock hill district, and coached youth sports there for years. but i feel he was more comfortable in the ironton school district for obvious reasons, and it was twice as far to rock hill, as it was to ironton each day. with that said. a couple of kids moving from district to district, during an open enrollment season. does not even come close to what goes on in the private schools, you just stated some of the examples yourself. -----------NUFF SAID.

If you could e-mail their AD's or Coaches your formula on how Private schools cheat to win they would appreciate it ;-)

Losing records isn't a sign that one doesn't cheat. D-III Hoban recently had Sutton, an Ohio Mr. Football and their losing record is a sign of a down year in a serious schedule of tough parochial schools that now number 7 and include Lake Catholic, Walsh Jesuit and SVSM, not to mention playing big D-I schools like Boardman. I also wouldn't include Chaminade or Cleve St. Joe.

Keep it confined to small D-VI and some D-V schools who struggle to win any year. And many listed fill that bill.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------dutch, unless you're just playing friends with me. you are taking this way too personal. you know why st. joe dropped football , they had like 40 boys in the school. but when bob lutz coached there, they were winning the ovc. and i don't know it all. but i know the system is broke. since we're friends, i think. i will leave it at that.

BTW...if Ohio ever separates championships into Public and Private, the Private Championship wont be worth the cost of the trophy. Everyone in the state will know who the REAL champion is most years, and of course there are exceptions (see Hilliard Davidson, Winton Woods, etc).

BTW why doesnt anyone ever mention Steubenville? Most Ohio schools wont have anything to do with them.

Steubenville 2010
8/26 H Inkster (MI) (2-7) [2:0] W 36-0
9/4 N McKeesport (PA) (8-1) [2:0] W 7-0
9/10 H Brooke (WV) (7-2) [2:0] W 34-21
9/17 H St John's College (DC) (4-5) [2:0] W 14-0
9/25 H Morgantown (WV) (9-1) [1:0] W 35-7
10/1 H Wheeling Park (WV) (2-8) [1:0] W 39-0
10/8 A Massillon Washington (7-3) [1:2] L 7-28
10/15 H Ursuline (10-0) [5:17] L 3-24
10/22 H St Joseph's Collegiate (NY) (4-5) [1:0] W 59-39
10/29 H Cardinal O'Hara (NY) (5-4) [6:0] W 36-0
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------i'll tell you one of the reason's. they nearly never play outside their own stadium. look at this schedule 8 home games and a nuetral site out of 10 games.

On the first nite of the state semi-finals, we have all kinds of upsets. Out of 6 games, I only win 2, losing 4 to run my picks record to 85-29.

The winners --

D-IV .... Chagrin Falls used its superior speed to beat athletic Orrville 21-3.
D-VI......Delphos St. John kicked the dog crap out of Lehman Catholic 49-7.

The losers --

D-II....Trotwood Madison scores with 5 seconds to go to edge Lake 34-27. And in the upset of the night, Maple Hts comes from behind to stick it to Mentor Lake Catholic 27-17 with a Shaq "attack", shown on cable STO.

D-IV.... Columbus Hartley finally finishes off the defending state champs Kettering Alter 29-28.

D-VI..... In a mild upset Shadyside controls Mogadore 28-13.

Thats just the first night of the Semi-finals , a wild night for sure. Saturday night coming.

Bait, We can disagree and still be friends. Any school Private or Public caught recruiting or cheating the system should be punished. You do know that without Private schools in Div. I, Glenville and Colerain both would dominate, so what have you accomplished ?. One thing though I have noticed is that noone here mentions how much better education these inner city kids are getting compared to public schools in the inner city. For some it is their only way out and a chance to go to college and make a better life for themselves.

Can't let this go by-- the notion that one gets a superior education at a parochial school is phony. You can get a good education anywhere.

1. Warren City Schools is and has been an Academic Watch in Ohio. Yet , grads are still accepted in Ivy League schools. Their kids graduate and often with honors. "Boom" Herron ( Ohio St.) is but one of several dozen Harding players playing ( and graduating) in college.

2. Area Parochial schools Mooney & Ursuline are, well................... embarrassed. Several years ago a recuit went to Big 10 Michigan, fluked out immediately and transfered to YSU................. where, after playing one season , he fluked out again. Ursuline has almost 10 kids in Jucos becuase their grades/test scores were so bad they couldn't get into state or private colleges. Yet all players stayed "eligible" during the football season in H.S. while getting that "superior" education. YSU is about to get another Mooney grad as a transfer from Nebraska who was an All- Ohio RB thats is going to fluke out because............................................. he can't read. Pelini is livid. The list of former stars in other Ohio parochials who flunked out ( or couldn't pass entrance exams) of college is long, destroying the myth of a "superior" parochial education. Its been a smoke screen to cover open recruiting ( and get the state to pay vouchers for their tuition) of good athletes who aren't good students. Yet these morons stay "eligible" during their H.S. careers. Its similar to schools in Ohio who "support" a 1.0 GPA for eligiblity. Absolute B.S.

That's true to a certain point..... Let's not forget that parochial schools do not have to deal with all the BS that public schools deal with.. How many parochial schools have free lunch programs? You get out of line at a parochial and you are gone.... How many parochials are on academic watch in the state of Ohio??? Probably 95% or higher of the students that go to parochials have nothing to do with athletics, so why do parents spend that much $$$ to send there kids????

Hey 4ever... The answer to your question is probably "0"..... But that is just a guess....LOL.... Can you imagine spending $7000 to send your kid to a private HS and the kid would get a 1.0 pt....

Saturday nite scores are in for the State semi-finals and I went 4-2 tonite , running the picks record to 89-31 with 6-6 for the Semis. The winners--

D-I
St. Eds beats Whitmer 23-13.

D-III
Watterson whips McNicholas 20-7

D-V
Coldwater puts it on Fredericktown 26-6 and Ursuline destroys Lima C.C. 51-36.

The losers were D-I where Wayne takes Davidson 28-14 and D-III where Akron Buchtel embarrassed Alliance Marlington 52-8.

State finals have some nice match-ups and a couple of stinkers.

In Paladins eyes it was to be a slaughter for Alter. It just proves the SE can still play ball with anyone.

I agree GAHS it was an upset. Anytime you take down the defending champ it is an upset. That is why they play these games on the field and not in the papers. I know Ironton was not given a chance to win in the semi finals in 1979 vs. Badin and they were monster underdogs to Akron St V ST M's in Akron for the championship. You just got to let the kids play the games.
