This is all good information glad to hear it.siderman wrote:What little I've got to see and what I've been told we have just shy of 60 kids. Really good turnout. Sounds like we have some skill and some speed. Not very big, but ill take guts and speed any day over size and slow.
Glad to see Jared Pendleton coaching and hope he's here for good. Newsome will be a good addition. He's an excellent line coach. Excited to hear of possible changes to the defensive scheme that will allow us to compete better with the valley and wheelersburg spread. Glad football's here and maybe we'll surprise some people.

Great to hear! I know your one who is in the know probably more than anyone on here I know of, so hope to see some new things the younger generation coaches can bring. Kudos on the new additions! No matter where I live I always want my alma matter to succeed. This is a step in the right direction I think.siderman wrote:What little I've got to see and what I've been told we have just shy of 60 kids. Really good turnout. I don't think we have a kid as big as 250 this year this will be the smallest line we have had for as long as I can remember but they will be strong and quick. I agree 100% that we have been to predictable in years past. We have had some great talent in years past but not what we had in2002 that was a very special bunch of youngmen.Endzone_Warrior wrote:When you have 60+ kids out and your line averages 250+ the current west offense can have SOME success as they have. The 2002 team obviously had all those said intangables, plus good backs and made a historic run. Not fair to compare to a D4 State Champion though. The point trying to be made here by everyone is that West has became much to predictable. Yet West has had teams in the last 5 years who could have made the run as the 2002 team did, but has came up short for the same reasons...you can get pissy all you want, but the facts are there and anyone who knows football can see it.siderman wrote:Not to get into this argument, but I attached a link to a Clinton Massie highlight reel that has some good angles of their offense. They run basically the same stuff we do except theirs is out of the bone more and ours the T. Only difference is they almost always have a split end and a TE; where we are generally two tights. Seems to open up the field and may be a happy median between our current offense and passing more. Or at least make teams get a safety out of the box.

I am also glad to see Jared there, he is a great addition to the coaching staff. I would like to see him be the head coach someday in the future.siderman wrote:What little I've got to see and what I've been told we have just shy of 60 kids. Really good turnout. Siderman (and anyone else commenting on Massie). Having lived near Clinton-Massie for the past few years and watching/scouting them, I agree with both sides of the fence. They have been blessed with tons of talent (comparable to our state team), and have a great system/scheme.
They are a power football team, but they keep teams off balanced with the option and play action passing game. They are deceptive, everyone in the state knows what they are going to do. However, they have change-up. Much like, Ironton in years past. But, I think most people with knowledge of the game know we have one of the best staffs in the area, and they will get the most out of the team.
Now that I'm done babbling, is there any update on the scrimmages? I heard we have Ironton at home on the 24th.
Also, what does every think of bringing back the Ironton series? We've only beat them once in school history, but much has changed since we last played them (which was a very good game).

Hopefully the scheduled scrimmages against them is setting that up..?
Couldn't hurt any thing and like you said, it brought some good games, despite the lopsided series record.

I would love to see Ironton back on the schedule. I think that could turn into a good rivalry.
Re: Portsmouth West Football for 2013 Good?Bad or Ugly?
Yes. Would love to renue the series with ironton. Maybe we can replace northwest with them.
But our schedule this year is tough.
I saw Clinton massie in the state finals last year and thought their offense was really good. They don't have to change formations to get the ball down the field while keeping the benefits of a full backfield and power running. Only option s to throw from our base formation is the tight end or a back out of the backfield.
