Re: Logan Football 2013
Logan needs the support of the community back there is to much down talk up that way the boys there hear those things...what thay need to be hearing is the community standing behind them again...just saying!!!
Re: Logan Football 2013
buckeye_master - I agree 100%, after the last 3 seasons the community IS speaking negatively of the football program - Coach Burke has an uphill battle in getting the Logan community back in the stands and supporting the program again ... I was in the Logan McDonalds last Saturday morning for breakfast, just as ALL McD's have the "group of locals who eat and discuss everything from politics to high school football" the Logan McD's is no different ... I was walking out, and the locals who knew me were looking over the Logan football camp pics in the LDN ... comparing the pic of younger kids (probably close to 100+ kids) to the 9-12 pic of 42 or so ... the locals were very negative comparing the low numbers to the numbers back in the day thru the early 2000's ... looking at the 8 or so seniors questioning what happens between grade school, middle school to high school ... the consensus with the group there was that Logan would win 2 games this season ... many of the folks sitting there were season ticket holders who are NO LONGER season ticket holders ... I tried to convince the group that they needed to give Coach Burke a fair chance to get things turned around, that the large number of younger players in the camp pic was a good sign of things happening already! that Coach Burke would be doing his best to keep the interest in football up as these kids progress through to the high school level - again the community would need to be patient and give the kids their support at all levels ... I WAS HAVING an uphill battle talking to the folks - Coach Burke will need to get things done on the field with the product that he and his staff puts out there THIS season to get the "locals" back supporting the program ...

Re: Logan Football 2013
As we all know the last three years was a train wreak and we must put those years out of our memory! As I said B-4 If our team can pull out 5 wins Burke will be coach of the year But lets be real from my sources and observation 2-4 wins are possible! When you come into a situation like this you start to build with youth and it will take 3-5 years to accomplish. I know of a similar situation like this and the new coach had the young men involved in community service projects and off season team building actives in order to reenergized the community and interest in the program! One negative this community must get over is being pissed over firing of the EX coach! and support the new coaches program!moonshine wrote:A good friend of mine is an assistant coach at a high school in Northern Ohio and today is the conclusion of there summer workouts. Later this evening a rally along with a cookout will celebrate the ending of conditioning and the beginning of pre season!

Re: Logan Football 2013
The seniors, juniors, and sophs combined I counted 39 players. Freshmen is in the grey t-shirts, there's 21 players. 39 and 21= 60 players 9-12. How did you come up with 42? If this picture is correct, 39 players should be dressed Friday evening for the Golden Galeville gameTrenchfoot wrote:pfloyd wrote:buckeye_master - I agree 100%, after the last 3 seasons the community IS speaking negatively of the football program - Coach Burke has an uphill battle in getting the Logan community back in the stands and supporting the program again ... Re: Logan Football 2013
I don't ever remember a Logan team with this small amount of players if its 39, and it will probably go lower after two a days.

Re: Logan Football 2013
Yep, it is a very low number for a div 2 school. But there's 39 players there in the picture in jersey's not counting the freshmen in grey t-shirts. The LDN said the freshmens in the grey t-shirts forming an L in the middle. Count them Bolt and see what you come up with. Hope for quality in small quantity. GO CHIEFS!!! Get-er-Done Billy B.
Re: Logan Football 2013
... trenchfoot - I didn't come up with 42 , I was just quoting what was told to me by the group at McD's ... as long as the Chiefs have a good group 39 or 42 who WANT to be on the field , who WANT to play hard, who WANT to learn the game - the folks in the stands will support them imo ... Logan fans CAN handle getting beat IF the PURPLE plays hard, plays fundamentally sound on both sides of the ball, doesn't phone it in, shows improvement from game to game ...

I feel the same way pfloyd, play hard with heart no matter what the number's are. I just thought maybe there was 42 players you knew was out for the team and hoping some missed the picture or something.pfloyd wrote:... trenchfoot - I didn't come up with 42 , I was just quoting what was told to me by the group at McD's ... as long as the Chiefs have a good group 39 or 42 who WANT to be on the field , who WANT to play hard, who WANT to learn the game - the folks in the stands will support them imo ... Re: Logan Football 2013
Just like Texas State in Necessary Roughness, Logan will play Ironman football. Also as long as we play with DISCIPLINE!
Re: Logan Football 2013
One thing to also remember which has obviously been forgotten, MANDATORY attendance doesn't begin until Monday. They haven't even handed out equipment yet. Not saying it will happen, but you COULD POSSIBLY have more kids show up Monday that hadn't been to anything. There were at least 6 kids at the parent meeting on Tuesday that hadn't been to any workouts to date. Numbers don't mean poo in my opinion. You only need 11 on both sides.
Re: Logan Football 2013
Logan grad - do you know if Kevin Fisher (the 6-8 hoopster) is going to play football this season? I had heard that THAT was a possibility ... you're absolutely right about camp & camp pics NOTHING has been mandatory YET ... the 55 number you posted is right about at the USUAL roster count that it has been for ever it seems ... you are also right about IF you have the right kids you only need 11 on offense and 11 on D ... BUT lets go with at least 18 kids with the right attitude and good football heads on their shoulders

FLOYD et. al -
Like any sports community, results matter and the locals get restless. The last three years haven't been good for Logan football on or off the field.
Purple clad fans have been completely spoiled for a decade. The good news, or maybe the must frustrating part, is people WILL come back as soon as the on field product returns.
Logan has always struggled for numbers. I heard for years that Dale was promised another assistant coach if he could get to 50 players, and it took him a while to get there. Logan rebounded starting in 1998 following 3 straight losing seasons. Combine that with Logan having a new head coach, and anything in the mid-40s would be a good number historically. With success, the numbers will grow.
Here's Logan's numbers from 1998-2001:
1998: 36 (12 seniors) 8-2 record
1999: 42 (8 Seniors) 9-2 record (playoffs)
2000: 51 (15 seniors) 12-1 (playoffs)
2001: 50 (16 seniors) 10-1 (playoffs)
Numbers have been much higher recently, but haven't necesarily meant success. More seniors is always a good thing, but numbers always fall when the team isn't winning.
I definitely want to give Coach Burke a chance, and believe Chieftain nation will be pleasantly surprised this fall. Now's the time, IMO, to go buy some nice season tickets to have when the team is winning the SEOAL again in 2-3 years.

Re: Logan Football 2013
Fisher and Gabe Smith both out for football.
I will offer this on my own behalf; with a son on the team and competing for a spot on both sides of the ball. I have spoke to Coach Burke and I am very impressed. I like his discipline thoughts and his thoughts on each kid will be treated differently. Nobody is above the program. Nobody.
I will also say based on conversations with coaches and other people close to the program that absolutely no one has been given the nod as a starter at any position and I think its a bit ludicrous to assume otherwise. This is a new coach with a new attitude and every single position is up for grabs. To say a starter has been selected before pads have even been put on, before a snap in practice has even been snapped, before any single down in a scrimmage has been played, under a new system; is crazy. Just my opinion. Every kid is out there working hard, every kid is believing again; every kid is becoming one with the rest of their teammates. You can see it. How about we get through one week of two a days before we name starters in July?? I am very excited to see this team and the results. I will be in the STANDS each week, in the lots tailgating before kickoff, and win or lose I will be there. Im out until basketball season bc as with a kid on the team, I need to keep my opinions moving forward to myself and my family. Best of Luck to all the kids, coaches, parents, students, and community this season.
We WILL; Restore Order!!

Sounds very good Logan Grad. Thanks for the info. I'm very excited also. GO CHIEFS!!!!
Re: Logan Football 2013
At the 7 on 7 with Roundtown and Berne Union there were 42 kids out there not counting lineman plus a few that are said to be playing were not there either. Between the lineman and those few that wasn't there and some late comers it might go near 60.
Re: Logan Football 2013
... great to hear about the two BIGS for LHS! Gabe Smith 6-3 is very INTENSE when I say his name and knowing Gabe I can see Gabe and "Flying to the football" mentioned in the same sentence a lot this season LOL ... Kevin Fisher? I see tight end on Offense or even a line position/defensive end on D at 6-8, an athlete, great footwork - Coach Burke WILL find a spot for this one ...
... good to see some positive posts about this years Purple!!! ... Logan @ Lancaster first stop on our Handy Dandy Pocket Schedules for 2013 ... It's August, it's 2 A Day times right around the corner ... yesssssssssssssss!
