Whats your "bread and butter" play?

Post by hilltopkid »

I know it depends on the team you have and what their strengths are, but every coach has that one play they feel comfortable coaching. Right?
As I mentioned in another thread, my favorite play by far is the good-old fashioned Power or Power G. If you can get your OT or TE to fly down and seal off the ILB's and get a good kick out block by the lead blocker, this play is ahrd to stop. You can run it from just about any formation, even a one back set, using a WB or slot to block the end.
The Power G in my terminology is the same play, but bringing either the PS or BS guard to lead through the whole just inside of the KO block. This works good when the BSILB flows fast and the guard cant get to him just by firing out form his normal position.
Another great variation, especially if they make an adjustment and put the end head up or inside eye, is what I call the "Blast". It's the same play, except the TE arch releases and goes to the second level. We still kick out the end.
So lets hear it. Whats your bread and butter play?

Love the POWER G (as you call it). The man who really hooked me on that play called it DRIVE OFF-TACKLE.

That same fellow who I mentioned above also used to say, "When in doubt, WAGGLE!"

Lately, I have also become a strong believer in the ROCKET SWEEP.

For Logan, it used to be the draw play when Robinson was calling the plays. Everyone in the stands would groan the few times it didn't work, but if you watch highlight reels from Austin Rohr, Derek Harden, Wayne Bateman, and even Kevin Call you'll see they picked up a heck of a lot of yardage off the draw play.

You know something was working right on that play because the Chiefs were able to execute and gain big yardage even though we hardly threw to set it up.

Last year, I would say the power sweep was our go to play. With Frye's ability to shake guys in the open field and smaller interior linemen, we made a lot of hay on the power sweep.

I'll second that LOCOS. The play that hurt us vs you guys, especially on the goal line was the power, that I like. Our end wasn't blowing it up and he was playing way too wide, and it hurt us bad.

Mine personally, the waggle out of the I.

A good fullback who can catch and a TE that has speed enough to get in the flats and that play is dangerous. I treat it as a run first pass second play.

Teams that would play us would start blitzing a backside LB to the split end side to stop it. I just started running it out of double TE and to the strength.

QB Draw out of the shotgun with five wideouts to spread the defense out.

ace. . . any way you want it. . . . .
quaterback option. . . highschool teams that don't have the players to adjust on their own cannot stop this if the quarterback truly calls it.
