What teams will make make noise in the playoffs this year?

Post by billcox »

What teams in SE Ohio have the potential to win some games in the post season this coming year? Here are some teams that I think have the potential to do so:

Logan - they are loaded!
Burg - always have great skill players
Portsmouth - two D1 linemen and very talented skill players
Ironton - returning a bunch from last season, will be very experienced

Who am I leaving out?

I agree with the N.C. F.C. Lan. exc. However, only 1 of those are south of the Lancaster-Dixon line, aren't they? I'm not sure where Shadyside or F.C. are geographically. I don't want a lesson anyway, just my 2 cents on that. My guess, since you say "...in the playoffs..." is that in addition to the above, add the following: Logan (probably 1-1) Ironton (1-1) Wheelersburg (?) Haven't heard from Amanda in a while. What's up over there?
Also, Jackson is due for a good run again after a few years of silence.

I have to agree with boogerred on putting those schools in because they are in Region 23 and are always big time players in the region.

NY has a chance to win a game or to in the playoffs. Guess we will have to wait and see.

I was going to mention East but I couldn't remember what they have returning from last season. How many starters and other players who saw substantial playing time are returning for East? Who are the returning all-state players and what position do they play?

They pretty much return everyone except Baily-QB/CB, Bradford-RB/LB,Brian Collin-FB/LB/DE,Brad Collins-OL/DE, Caudill-OL. But they return All-State players in Hoover-RB(AS)/CB, Howard-OL/DL(AS) and Chase Mault-LB/TE(AS).

They also return Blair who filled in Bradford when he tore his ACL did a good job and also they return Bradfords younger brother along with another brother who will be a freshman. Players who should be able to fill in on the line are Stringer and Wright Stringer got PT there this past year as did Stringer who is d-1 size.

I think that Logan, Portsmouth and maybe Ironton all have the potential to win a game or two in the playoffs.

If you want to get technical, any team that is located South of I70 and East of US23 would be considered SE Ohio. Having said that, I agree that a teams Geographical location doesn't necessarily make it "local". The following conferences contain teams that I believe most people who frequent this site would generally consider to be local:

OVC
SVC
SEOAL
SOC
TVC

Runner,

I agree with your post for the most part but I must say that your mention of Wellston is way off base IMO. The Rockets went 0-10 last season and have only made the playoffs twice during their exsistence.

Wellston lost to Bellaire in the first round of the playoffs in 2004 and lost to Martins Ferry in the first round in 2006. Not too long ago.

Last year was last year ,,this is a new year . The Rockets have a very tough non-league schedule but should be competitive in their league this year.

I agree with Sheridan. They are flat out loaded. This is the year they have been waiting on. I see them going very deep this this year, at least Regional Champs and final four. Many things can happen though. Last year they were ranked as high as Third in the State Poll and 5th a couple weeks. In week 7 they lost 6 starters, including both QB'S, star running back, and all the starting DB'S, to injuries. Some are saying Bellaire will have a nice team this year, rebounding from a very bad year last year. They can go deep into the playoffs as they usually do. Their biggest problem will be if they have anyone healthy after week one. Some knot head there scheduled Sheridan at Sheridan. Logan will surprise some and get a playoff win or two. Look for New Lexington to win one or two, and Fisher Catholic again strong in small school.
