Not that it means a hill of beans right now but I saw the frosh game between I'town and Russell last year and it was a downright beating. I think the final was 48-0. By 2009 those kids will be juniors and important parts of their varsity squads. I would have to say in that class alone Ironton has a decidedly big advantage. Now maybe Russell has some good ball players that were sophs last year and can compensate but they better be pretty good. I know kids develope alot between frosh and jr/sr years and a frosh game does'nt mean much, but it is a decent indication. Good luck to Russell in "08.

no contest, no comparison, blowout or at leat a physical beating. no disrespect intended but Kentucky football isn't Ohio football. Good luck to both teams this year. I-town is back on the rise again and should see at least a few years of success based on thier lower level teams.

This is a game that should be played every year! It is great for both communities and both programs. It will be great to have the Ironton, Ashland, Russell, round robin play again in 2009. it will determine who's names go on the bridge first.

What is the spread?? Ah does it really matter, i'll take I-town and the under. It is a good gate and rivalry game and will bring bragging rights to the Tigers when finished. Power lifting........... ain't football!!!! Physical beating!!!! Maybe not as much as the score will reflect but beating, yes. However it sounds like Ironton may have a diverse offense this year which could lead to more to's than usual so in the event they have 4-5 to's then the score may be a little closer than expected, but still not that much closer. Gotta put the ball in the end zone to have a chance to win, good luck with that!!!

Early in the year, slightly different offense, guys coming into their own in new spots, the "new" kids becoming aware of what Ironton football actually is, boy Kantucky II you would make a tough bookie. I would say probably not by 35 b/c of the close proximity of the 2 cities but 34 would not be out of the question. Lutz willl sub enough to get the youngens some deserved playing time b/c some games in the league they may be more cheerleaders than players but he will do his best to prepare them for pt if he needs them, especially against inferior competition. Plus to not get anyone hurt b/c on this side of the creek it is much harder to make week 12,13,14, or 15 if injuries strike.

Rue??? Good word, i like it!! Still going with the under though b/c whatever Ironton wants to score compared to 6 will still be under. (Ironton's JV gives up a TD late but then blocks the kick, just because they can)

That was then and this is now, I understand that but.. http://www.irontonfootball.com/history2 ... 20Kentucky shows that was the pattern when Ironton was playing them the last few years. If I'm not mistaken (and I could be?) Russell inked this deal a couple of years ago when it appeared Coach Lutz was gone forever? I can't recall now..

Hey, I could be wrong but..I KNOW what the Tigers have coming up..just consider the records of their underclassmen coming up from last year
http://www.irontonfootball.com/schedule ... hedule.htm <----JV Results *note
http://www.irontonfootball.com/schedules/7th-8th.htm <----- 7 @ 8th Grade Results
Then you factor in the 'Lutz Factor' and the transfers? Well, Ironton should be, if nothing happens, one awesome and devastating force to contend with in '09! I'm sure that Russell never considered what they'd be facing because even Ironton didn't know what they were going to have when they signed this contract.

* about that 9th grade loss to Portsmouth last year?...Ironton really played that game to the wire and you have to know that there's about 85 boys on their freshmen team who would have been 10th graders anywhere else. It's one of those hold back classes, at least that is what I've been told by people from Portsmouth. It always is funny when some try to hide that..like it's not goin come out

I LOVE IT. FOOTBALL AROUND THE CORNER. THE DEVILS ON THE RISE IN KENTUCKY. ALWAYS LIKE TO SCHED. IRONTON, WHEN THEY APPEAR LOADED. WHAT I THINK WILL BE RUSSELL'S DOWNFALL IS OUR BEASTLY SCHEDULE. IN ALL HONESTY.

WE AIN'T EAST CARTER, OR ELLIOT COUNTY.

^^^^^I guess your going to put this on every Ironton topic on this site.
They are transfers get over it. I had a Ironton basketball topic going and it turned into this and the whole topic got deleted. What's your goal here with this crap????

Happens every day, if kids move they have to switch schools, right? Transfers happen but maybe Ironton should agree to not play the new kids, and at an early point in the season they will have little impact due to still learning a new system, and maybe the score will only be 3-4 tds. Are any of these kids blue chip athletes, if so then we can see footage of them and highlight clips, if not then who cares?? I know they may make a difference but what school doesn't move kids into and out of the system over the years? play the game and hush. BTW, I think the more of this crap I read I agree with the Lutz factor allowing them to decide to ink this deal. He came back, take it on the chin and hope it doesn't hurt any deeper than that. We play them every year, they are good and if you don't show up they will punish you, bottom line. I personally respect that and appreciate the chance to beat a quality team. They are not world beaters and they are getting ready to play much better teams than Russell so get ready b/c the Tigers have to get ready for some tough games ahaed, unfortunately for Russell this is not one of their "tough" games.

Prior to the game next year all Ironton fans are going to meet at the Fuzzy Duck and blast Russell with loud music to intimidate the whole town before we start across the bridge  :122245   :122245

Just for those that do not know... Russell always complains about the Ducks loud music. And by the way I HAVE NEVER BEEN THERE!
