Jottings knows better than I but I do not think Brian has been inducted to date. I don't have a list of all the nominees but many very very good players have not even been nominated. I think some of the Neal boys will end up in the Hall but to my knowledge haven't been nominated yet.(Chuck and Pete)

I know they select only a few each year. How is the process done? I know there is an application to fill out, but will they only pick one from each sport, year graduated, etc?

Criteria for selections to the GAHS Athletic Hall of Fame

The voting members and all other members of the HOF Committee will adhere to the following criteria for membership to the GAHS Athletic Hall of Fame:

Athletes—A member must be a GAHS graduate.
A member must have received at least two GAHS varsity G letters (female athletes prior to 1980 shall be exempt).
Male athlete nominations shall begin the school year of 1924-25.
Female athlete nominations shall begin the school year of 1967-68.
A member must be out of high school for 10 years.
A member must be a good role model and citizen.

Coaches—A coach nominee shall have coached a minimum of 3 years at GAHS.
Boosters—A booster nominee must have be an active GAHS Booster for a minimum of 5 years.
A booster nominee must have made a significant contribution to GAHS Athletics.

All—To be selected the nominee must receive at least 75 percent of votes of the committee at a selected meeting.
Any nominee, following initial nomination, shall be eligible for a vote each year for a minimum of 3 successive years and may be re-nominated thereafter.
All votes will be taken by roll call unless a committee member calls for a secret ballot.
For voting purposes, a conflict of interest shall exist for a committee member when his/her immediate family member is up for vote, or the vote is regarding that committee member.

A majority of the committee has the right to select members to the committee in order to fill vacancies created as a result of death, resignation, or failure to attend 3 consecutive meetings without a pre-approved excuse.
A minimum of nine committee members with at least one being an officer constitutes a quorum.
A minimum of four must have a written proxy from an absent committee member authorizing the present member to vote on all matters that come before the board at that particular meeting.

Congratulations to a very good class of inductees!

I know they are all great individuals as well as very deserving Blue Devil alumni.

Jottings, thanks for the list...it was fun to peruse through the honored members of the Gallipolis community.

Well done, selection committee!

I wouldnt worry too much if someone you think should be in isn't yet. Arguably the best football player in school history (Andy Howard) and best basketball player in school history (Gary Harrison) aren't in yet. Their time will come. My guess is they havent been nominated yet.

I don't agree with this "Criteria" as a determining factor. It's bias, a "what have you done since high school" popularity contest. I agree that you shouldn't elect someone who is sitting in prison serving time, or a multi-convicted felon. Shouldn't it be based on what you accomplished as an athlete in high school, not after high school. According to the "criteria" if a guy lettered two years in a sport, then went on to find a cure for a disease, that he would stand a better chance at getting in versus a guy who lettered in three sports for four years and now works at Wal-Mart. There will be a great debate over alot of good athletes who made some mistakes after high school, that should be going in there. How can you keep an Andy Howard, the only USA/Today All-American in school history, out? I know with it's inception only six years old, you have a lot of older athletes to get in there first but it's nice to see an athlete, post 1983, going in this year.

Blacksunshine...Gary Harrison and Danny Howard were not eligible for nomination this year...The committe selected men from the Class of 1925 through 1984, and women from 1967 through 1989. Harrison and Howard graduated in 1986-87.

No doubt they will be nominated when their time comes.

Nobody has nominated neither of the Neal boys, Chuck and Pete, two of Gallia Academy's best athletes who starred for the Blue Devils from 1968 through 1971.

jottings, is there a reason why you dont nominate the Neal boys? No disrespect just wondering. I also agree with Blacksunshine that there are a lot of athletes that were great in high school but for one reason or another have gotten in some trouble. I would think it would be very hard to keep Phil King out of the hall as well as the late Big John Armstrong, I always thought it was a high school hall of fame and the acomplishments after high school would not be considered but mentioned if they are inducted. IMO
