Muskingum Valley 38 Licking County 9(All Star Game)

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

Last night at White Field in Newark the annual all star game between Muskingum Valley and Licking County took place.
Muskingum Valley had a total of 35 players listed on their roster, with 19 coming from Zanesville and Tri-Valley, while the other sixteen players came from the rest of Muskingum County.

Licking County had 36 on their roster, but many of last years better seniors were not in this game and the fianl score would show big time, which county seemed to be more serious about winning this game.

Cameron Johnson (Watkins) picked off a Derek Grandstaff (Zanesville) pass to halt a Muskingum Valley drive, with,10:20 left in the opening quarter. The Licking County offense could do nothing with the ball and was forced to punt two plays later. For the first half the Licking County offense could only gain thirty four yards, on twenty one plays.

Grandstaff would redeem himself with 8:45 showing on the clock when he connected with,Alessio Amato(Zanesville), who was wide open, for a seventy three yard score. The point after kick by left footed kicker,Lane Dailey(Rosecrans) made this a,7-0 game.

With 3:32 left in the quarter Muskingum Valley ran a fake punt, that many of us in the stands called and the result was a twenty one yard gain by,Leo Crosby(Zanesville) 15 yards was tacked on thanks to a dumb penalty on Licking County.

Thaddius Winston(Granville) just missed picking of a Grandstaff pass with 3>03 left in the quarter.

Johnson would pick off another pass for Licking County with 2:11 showing on the clock. Once again it was a Grandstaff toss, his 2nd pick of the game.

Kris Goodman(Newark Catholic) known more as a runner as a quarterback, was picked off on a horrible pass by Ben Kauffman(Zanesville)with 1:31 left in the half.

Just :56 seconds into the 2nd quarter,Crosby easily scored from five yards out, after the point after kick the score was,14-0.

Goodman would connect with Rex Miles(Watkins) for a rare first down, for Licking County with 10:17 left in the half.

The clock showed 4:29 left, when Goodman mishandled the snap from center and the result was a five yard loss on the play.
With 4:16 left in the half Corey Hare9Watkins) hit a 45-yard field goal to make this a,14-3 game.

De'Aunte Goins(Zanesville picked up thirty nine yards with a nice run, with 3:23 left in the half.
The final points of the half came in the shape of a,twenty five yard field goal by,Dailey.

Muskingum Valley had 281 yards in the half, while Licking County limped in with 34.
Line play was the biggest reason for this. Neither of the Licking County quarterbacks had much time to do much and when they did, they did little.

Garrett Robinson(Licking Valley) would hold Amato to zero yards on a punt return, with 10:06 left in the third.
As out manned as Licking County was, they never seem to quit and that speaks a lot about the character of those young men.

Tyler McGee(Tri Valley) hooked up with Chase Roberts(Maysville) for a thirty eight yard score, with 8:33 left in the quarter. A high snap resulted in a two points run by,Kauffman to make this a,25-3 game.

Muskingum Valley showed just how serious they were about winning this one with a onside kick on the ensuing kickoff. Luckily for Licking County, Thomas Smedley III was awake and recovered the kick, with 8:32 left in the third.

With 7:31 left in the quarter,Crosby took off on a forty nine yard run. The Licking County defense had no answer for him nor the rest off the Muskingum Valley offense. Speed and size was two of the biggest reasons for this.

The Licking County defense did stand tall with, 5:42 showing on the clock, when Wes Jurden(Newark Catholic) stuffed Crosby for a short loss. The effort was there for Licking County but effort alone, no matter how hard can not win games.

Jurden and friends would sack McGee for a short loss with, 5:11 left in the quarter.

Logan Hittle(Tri-Valley) would have had another Muskingum Valley score, if not for a great play by Trent Coe(Johnstown)who batted the ball away, with 2:34 left in the quarter.

Licking County would lose fumbles on two consecutive plays with, Trevor Davisson(Sheridan) pouncing on the second one, with 2:11 showing on the clock.

Grandstaff threw his third pick of the night with 2:05 left in the third, making the play for Licking County was,Coe.

11:05 was left in the game when,Crosby took off on a twenty three yard run.
Grandstaff would add to the Muskingum County lead when he connected with,Kauffman on a nine yard score. The point after kick made this a,32-3 game.

With 8:41 left in the game Licking County got a forty three yard catch from Alex miles(Watkins)on a ball tossed by,Westley Brandon (Watkins). The point after try failed and the score stayed,32-9.

Bobby Broomfield(Watkins) recovered the onside kick for Licking County, with 8:39 left.

With 3:10 left McGee took the ball over twenty yards to the Licking County one yard line. From there Derek Gross(Sheridan) plowed in for the score. The point after try failed as a pass feel incomplete.
