Jackson (3-0)

Defeated Wellston, 21-7
Defeated Waverly, 33-25
Defeated Vinton County, 42-16

Portsmouth (2-1)

Defeated South Point, 24-14
Defeated Portsmouth West, 21-20
Lost to Wheelersburg, 14-68

Jackson will travel to Portsmouth's new Trojan Coliseum for the first time in this SEOAL opener. The Trojans are coming off of a blowout loss to the Burg, while the Ironmen enter this game after a sloppy win at Vinton County. This is a HUGE game with respect to SEOAL title contention and playoff hopes for both teams. Should be a good game, in my opinion.

Flip a Coin in this one...Both teams are young...both teams have shown some promise...Portsmouth get your heads up...and forget about the loss...although it was a tough one...you can still make a season out of it...sometimes a team is just on...and sometimes teams just don't show up...this unfortunately wasn't your night...good luck to both teams next week...it should be a good one.

Did someone just use the words Portsmouth and Play-offs in the same sentence?

Clifford was overheard today asking if he has his 30 years in to trigger retirement.

the only thing sloopy in our win tonite were the fat blind refs.... it was a direct intent to keep VC in the game....

Pol Pot,

I'm not predicting that either of these teams will make the playoffs, but at this point, it's still a possibility for both. I'm sure that both teams' staff and players have that goal as well.

blacksheep,

I will say that I also thought the officiating in the Jackson/VC game was pretty awful. I think the teams combined for almost 30 penalties for 250 yards, and some of that probably wasn't their fault. However, Jackson has committed more than 10 penalties in each of its first three games (11, 11, 15). That's something that really needs to be fixed. I'm sure the Jackson staff and players are working on that. Pass blocking isn't an easy thing to do when you've been run blocking your entire life. I'm confident that the holding penalties will decrease, but the overall mental errors need to stop if the Ironmen are to be competitive in the SEOAL. I think they'll get the problem solved, but it's a problem nonetheless.

ironmen02, agreed... i also believe we will correct those mistakes this week.. i also know our qb has been fighting strip throught all week, and high temps.had a tuff time tonite calling signals..but he still managed to rush for an 85 yard td[called back for holding] and another 35 yards called back for holding, overall we came together and got the win, correct the mistakes and i think we will cont. to win.....

Hope that Kruize gets to feeling better quickly. I don't have all the stats in front of me, but I think I heard on the radio that he was 5-9 for 70 yards through the air tonight. If that's the case, he's now 16-25 for 270 yards and 2 TDs. The Jackson rushing attack has been very good through the first three weeks, but the passing game has been very efficient as well. During SEOAL play, I'm sure that Jackson will have to open up the offense a little more, and I'm confident that that will be a good thing. Just have to give the QB time to throw.

I like Jackson .I think the Ironmen will be to physical and play keep away with the football .Big game for Drew Ervin and Clay Arthur. The only thing that scares me is the passing game for Portsmouth.Jackson has to stop with the penalties already.

The last time Portsmouth gave up 60+ points to someone, we still made the playoffs that season.

Portsmouth 98 is right.......in fact, in 2007 PHS went 8-2....... the Trojans lost 61-14 to Logan and 56-14 to Zanesville, and still made the playoffs........Portsmouth is still 2-1 with some winnable games ahead of them.

2old: There is no reason for me to give up on the Trojans........we've played only 3 games, with one very bad loss. 7 games left still gives us a possibility of making the playoffs.

I'm not going to be a quitter on these kids after just 3 weeks.........I plan on going to every game this year and cheering on the Red and Blue.......

We weren't going undefeated anyway.........

portsmouth 98,

Thanks for posting your series history.

I have the score in 1907 as 7-5 in favor of Jackson.

Also, I have the two teams playing a second game in 1908 and 1917, as well as playing once in 1914. I'm confident that these are accurate.

1908 - Portsmouth 39 - Jackson 0
1914 - Portsmouth 25 - Jackson 6
1917 - Portsmouth 13- Jackson 0

I think the Trojans bounce back this week. I believe Jackson will be closer to South Point and West and just try to pound the ball against us. It may work, but I know we are way better than we showed last night, that was tied for the fift most points scored against Portsmouth in over 100 years of fooball.
