Last Freshman for Logan
Re: Last Freshman for Logan
I do remember the Conrads on the bench at one game, but I don't know if they ever played...
Logan never believed in playing freshman... The only guess I can make was Ken Culbertson back
in the '70's.... He was a beast....

Re: Last Freshman for Logan
In the last 20 years or so (Amyx era) they occasionally have dressed freshman for the final game or two of the season once the freshman season was over. A couple of those kids occasionally made it into a ball game if it was a blow out, and it might be possible someone played on a special team or two. Conrads might have, not sure. I think John Cosgrove, Chad Zimmerman and Tim Woodgeard did get in a game or so for a few plays in the mid 1990s. However no freshman has really had the opportunity to really play in quite a while - Kenny Culbertson might be the right answer.

Ken played 70/71/72---I'm thinking he stayed on the freshman team in 1969

Stevens--61/62/63-don't know about his freshman year
Johnson--61/62/63--same
Smith--thinking he only had playing time three years
Stewart-played four year--plus I though he was all/League as a freshman

I know for a fact Coach Mikes did not bring up or play freshmen. Yes Kenny was an outstanding back and LB. Most of all he is an outstanding person!
Re: Last Freshman for Logan
In 1984 Logan did not field a Freshman team at all instead had them all play JV and dress for Varsity. Ryan Wilson played in a couple those games but recieved no meaningful time. A handful also got in the season ending blowout loss versus Cadiz.
Brian Cummins started at tailback as a Freshman against Miller in I believe 1983. He may be the only Freshman to ever letter if football. If he didn't I am very sure no one ever has.

Re: Last Freshman for Logan
The Miller game was 1982,the next year against Gallipolis I'm pretty sure some freshmen got in for mop up in the 4th quarter and they also traveled to Welcome stadium that year,I remember Coach Coate in the lockerroom after the Dunbar game saying I want everyone of you underclassmen to remember this game because they kept their starters in the whole game and even scored with like a minute left plus they were yelling some nasty racial stuff at us in pregame,, it was ugly....

Re: Last Freshman for Logan
i was trying to think if kelly wolfe played as a freshman torwards the end of the season in 84-85. but, the 84-85 season was our sophmore year. now wilson, rose and godfrey may have seen some mop up as freshman that year but i don't think they started. as sophmore yes.
the class of 87 played a freshman schedule in 83-84. it may not have been a full 10 game schedule but i think it was around 8 or 9 games. the 87 class was a very good class. from freshman to seniors we only lost 3 games not counting our sophmore year, the last year under steve coate, 84-85. as freshman they lost to ready, sophmore year ???, junior & senior years both lost to andy howe and gallia.

I think he started that year(84) as a sophmore, they still weren't very good that year then Perry came in and it changed for the better,I'm pretty sure he got some carries late in the Gallia game the year before when he was freshman.

Re: Last Freshman for Logan
The class of 2008 all played a little as Freshmen in mop-up time. That was the class with Luke Wright, Mark Potter, Mike Angle, etc.
I know Alex Penrod took some snaps in mop up time at the end of his freshman year.
I don't recall the Conrads ever playing as Freshmen, but I was pretty young in '97.
Also, Kelly Wolfe and Keith Myers both recorded stats during their Freshman seasons in 1984 and 1983 respectively.
According to LHS Aerials and old Logan Daily News articles, only 5 people have ever been 4 year letterwinners at LHS:
Hugo Shaw - 1912, 1913, 1914, 1915
Henry Adcock - 1922, 1923, 1924, 1925
Bill DeLong - 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959
Robbie Johnson - 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963
Bob "Big Daddy" Stewart - 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963
