For example, jackson has 2 high schools in one county. Wellston and Oak hill. They come together and forming Jackson County high school. Yes they would be a Div 1 or 2. Everyone shops in jackson already and comes to jackson on a daily basis. wellston can barely stay alive and the village of oak hill isn't much better.

Look at Gallia Academy, shutting down their athletics very soon because they don't have the funds in the budget. If they are then the other schools in that county that are even smaller and have less money aren't much farther behind them like South Gallia and River Valley.

You do this in only areas like ours in southern Ohio. like scioto, Lawrence, gallia, Adams, hocking, Athens, Ross, meigs. It will happen in the future with the economy and everything, a lot of areas are struggling.

What's your thoughts?

Perfect example, those are small areas and towns that are barely surviving.

Them 3 schools together would thrill and play schools like Chillicothe, Circleville and rest of schools that formed one county school. Emagine how good southeastern Ohio would be if counties did this. give a lot of these Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland schools ALOT better competition. But the area along would thrive even better because everything is supporting one school instead of 5 or 6 schools like in scioto.

Monroe County has River, Monroe Central and Bealsville. Certainly need to consolidate, but it has been taken to voters several times to pay like 10% of the cost of new buildings with the state paying the rest. Goes down big every time. Small communities want their OWN school.

As for then being able to compete with urban areas, I just don't see it. Would poor kids living 40 minutes from the school even be able to afford playing. Likely not.

Great bigger always better. Look at Logan. Works some years. The long county drives to and from school. Makes it harder when driving 30 mins a day one way. Then the cost of it. Makes it harder on parents to afford.
Not every student would like to be in a big school same for teachers. Besides many of the smaller school districts in Jackson, Lawrence and Gallia have built or remodeled schools since 2000. So putting in 1 school would mean expanded 1 school. 1 big county school works great in snow and high water also.
