Re: FAC Wk 8 Jackson @ Hillsboro
The single season rushing record was set by Shane Wolford in 1997. It's somewhere around 2,200 yards in 11 games. He went over 2,000 in the regular season. I think McCoy is closing in on 1,300 for the season, so he's probably not gonna make it. Still a VERY impressive season for him, and he's not finished yet.

I thought he was close too but radio last week stated he was at 1,077 for season and had 195 tonight for 1272 total.24sevenfootball wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2017 10:57 pmWhat is the single rushing record? McCoy has to be closing in on that. I believe he is around 1500 yards rushing
I'm old and probably misremembering...Ironman02 can probably pin point a little better
Shane Wolford had around 2150 in regular season in 1997
Randy Ridge had just over 1800 back in 1973 I think.
Todd Bachtel had over 1650 yards I think in 1987 and might have been over 1500 in 1986 as well.
Marty Exline was definitely over 1500 in 1990 and might have been in 89 as well.
In my head Wolford might have surpassed 1500 in 1996 but had several backs carry for good yardage.
I think David Swisher may have surpassed it in 2001
Klay Arthur had big season but I don't think the 1500 mark
Jared Humphreys put up big numbers as QB but not sure he ever touched 1500, maybe 1200
I believe great QB Joey Boggs had 1200+ as a sophomore tailback
Lots of big names in 70's and early 80's but never have heard a number for their great seasons
Bobby Exline from early 50's went and played at OSU...but have never heard a rushing number

Only been 20 years nearly to the date but I think Wolford needed 190 at Point Pleasant week 10 of 1997...I think he got that in first half or very early 3rd qtr. Once he got it he capped it with a 95 yard run and ended night around 355 yards....maybe it was 345 but I believe it was the second highest rushing yard game in JHS history, behind his insane game in 1996 at Logan (384? 378? 374?)ironman02 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2017 11:08 pmThe single season rushing record was set by Shane Wolford in 1997. Re: FAC Wk 8 Jackson @ Hillsboro
I think David Swisher was somewhere around 1,700 in 2001.
I think Arthur was close to 1,500 (and might have even gone a little over) in 2010, but Drew Ervin also probably was a little under 1,000 that year too. Thinking Ervin and Osborne were both around 1,000 the following year.
Counting playoff games, I think Humphreys actually did go over 1,500 in 2004, and he was definitely over 1,000 the year before that as well. I think TJ McDonald may have eclipsed 1,000 in 2003 also.
Boggs did have around 1,200 in 1994 as a RB, but didn't amass as many yards in 1995 and 1996 since he moved to QB, and was also sharing carries with Wolford, King, and Smith.
I'm not sure on the exact numbers for Ridge, Bachtel, and even Exline. I'd love to get a hold of stats from Randy Heath or Pete Wilson to see the exact numbers.

This is pretty much in line with what I was thinking. I used to know the exact numbers, but just can't remember anymore.Ironman92 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 13, 2017 11:16 pmOnly been 20 years nearly to the date but I think Wolford needed 190 at Point Pleasant week 10 of 1997...I think he got that in first half or very early 3rd qtr. Thinking Shane ended with like 34 TDs to go with his approximately 2,200 yards. Believe he had around 1,200 and 20 TDs in 1996, but don't remember what he did as a sophomore.

I think Kevin Baxter in 94 went over 1,000. Mark Hammond, Brian Landrum, Darwin and Kenny Valentine and David Davis likely all beyond 1,000 in a season. Farley went over 1,000 last year

Think Wolford and Boggs around 750 in 1995 and King and Smith near 500.....or was the back after Baxter or was it Baxter that maybe had a good number? II would also think that wolford had alot more carries in them days than McCoy does now, probably only averaging 20 to 22 carries a game for McCoy

He had huge run after huge run, literally every game he'd break a couple long ones. Johnny King and Shannon Smith took a lot of his carries.24sevenfootball wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2017 12:01 amII would also think that wolford had alot more carries in them days than McCoy does now, probably only averaging 20 to 22 carries a game for McCoy
Wolford only RB I've witnessed for Jackson with better vision than McCoy
Also Bruce Smith went over 1200 and Cody Huff maybe a few more the following year about 10 years ago

Yes, I remember but you also got to consider the kind of Oline wolford had. The lineman of that era would have made alot of people look good.

I agree. I've seen both lines. Eric Davis is arguably the greatest football player to ever play for JHS in my lifetime. He opened some massive holes for Shane Wolford. There is no one to compare to Eric on the current roster.

I know its a league game. so i will not poke any fun cause you have to play em. But i would hope so mcclain is horrible.
their defense give up 40 a game average
their offense averages 5.5 points a game
Jackson should have no trouble and should really consider resting their starters

There are a lot of things to consider, opponent, score of game, play calls and other weapons. Wolfords line was the best line we've ever had. I've never seen a rb in high school hit a hole faster than Wolford and I never saw anyone catch him from behind either. Wolford was a special special athlete and nothing to take away from.24sevenfootball wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2017 12:14 amYes, I remember but you also got to consider the kind of Oline wolford had. This year's line has done an excellent job. McCoy is a great Ironmen. Glad we have him!

Re: FAC Wk 8 Jackson @ Hillsboro
Good win last night, hats off to the defense shutting down Hillsboro who was averaging around 40. Great effort against a very big power running team.
Should be a relatively easier test next week at home, and then Chillicothe week 10 at home also. Last time Chilli came to town two years ago, a sophomore by the name of Blake McCoy gashed them from 20 out on the second or third play in OT after Chilli had kicked a field goal on their first possession in OT to give us the win.
2 weeks from now will require another great defensive effort against a totally different style of offense. FAC title on the line.

1 game at a time. Jackson lost more players to injuries last night . Maybe get some backup a lot of reps Friday and try and get ready for a rough game the following week .X8XOHIOLEGENDX7X wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2017 4:34 amI know its a league game. so i will not poke any fun cause you have to play em. Jackson will beat Chilli. Logan was down 21 to 14 at halftime before the bottom fell out on special teams. Chilli wants nothing to do with a physical run game. Contain QB 14 and Jackson wins by 14. Don't and it could be a 42 to 35 game. Either way I take Jackson.

Well Jackson played and lost to the best football team on either schedule . How this effects that game I'm not sure but these arguments often have no meaning.

Chillicothe or any of those teams will be tough games . Jackson should go to 8-1 next week. Great season for a team with so many youngsters playing . Sounds like at 9-1 they host a playoff gAme and at 8-2 they will sneak in

Great win for jackson! McCoy another breakout game for him. Haller with the game changing play with the sack and forced fumble leading to Hump scoop and score, huge play. He also added with some tackles and blocked on offense. Everyone contributed with the win, young guys getting in. Great team win! Those young guys should be itching for next week to get a bunch of time on the field. Credit to Hillsboro they have some big boys.
Jackson still finishes 9-1 and possibly home game!
