Steubenville Scheduling-Home Field Adavantage

Post by ohbuckeye2 »

I was bored so I got to looking at Steubenvilles Regular Season scheduling, what I found was pretty amazing. I went clear back to 2000.

From 2010 - 2017 ---- 60 Home - 17 away - 1 Neutral site

From 2000 - 2017 ---- 127 Home - 48 Away - 2 Neutral

I would say they've had more than their fair share of Home Field advantage lol.....

I try to get up to Steubenville once or twice a season. Even with the worse opponents they still average seven thousand plus in attendence. Some of their opponents bring less then 100 Fans, I've seen it many times. These opponents are probably getting two , three or more in guaranteed money then they would at a home game of their own.

Actually I was a little surprised they had that many away games. Going up this Friday to see Steub. play 7-0 New Philadelphia.

it's definitely a different ball game there. frankly I don't know how the state allows it.

The OHSAA doesn't have rules on how many home or away games you can have.
When Ironton was independent they could have scheduled as many home games as they could if they wanted to. Their isn't a rule against it.
Don't get mad at Steuby, these teams agree to show up and play them.

Im a Steubenville Grad it goes all the way back into the 80's also. Many teams from the ovac stopped wanting to play us so then we played teams at home. Due to that scheduling steubenville usually is not eligible to win the conference title in the ovac but the goal was and is always to be state champs.

When i moved to washington ch i was shocked we didn't have that many home games that was when i realized man we had it gravy !

I wondered about that after I posted this onb, thanks for that info.
I was never mad, just never knew if a team could do this or not. I guess the pay is good enough to opponents to keep teams coming in. is stuebenville in a league

Not sure about that to be honest. I always thought they were independent but it's possible.

Nothing like a game in 'Death Valley'. !

As others have said, no one in the mighty OVAC wants to play Big Red. St. Clairsville made the incredible miscalculation of thinking it was in the same league as Big Red a few years ago. We saw how that worked out.

Steubenville schedules so many schools with a one year contract, makes it so much easier for that home game. I was there several years ago to see the Athens game, packed house. A very average Steubenville team mainly juniors that actually made it to the State semis gave Athens a very good game. I think Steubenville lost three regular season games that season. Correct me if wrong , but I thought that was a two year deal, home and away , but Athens was able to get out of that second year even at home.

Wow, average around 7000 fans is pretty incredible.

Believe I'd have to see the 7,000 before I believe it especially when it's mentioned opposing teams don't travel well bringing 100-200 ppl. Division 4 school in an where 18,000 live and 7,000 of them attend high school football game??? Yeah not sure I'll buy that hype train, obviously others will go there just to watch a game but not to the point of driving up attendance to that level.
