Game Report- Stow 35 Hudson 23

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

Last night I made my first trip to Stow high school to take in the contest between, Stow and Hudson. This would be the 2nd time I have watched Stow this season and the very first time ever seeing Hudson play. The first time I watched Stow play, they were defeated by a very sound Wadsworth team, that was hard fought but never seemed like Wadsworth was ever in trouble.

Just twenty-two-seconds into the game Stow had a reverse blown up, when #17 Anthony Rightnour 5-9 / 165 got to the ball carrier for a two-yard-loss. Stow then would try a long pass to the home side, sideline to#85 Eric Schilling 6-2 / 185. Schilling made the catch, but was called for offensive pass interference negating the big gain. A punt soon followed as Stow could not overcome the penalty on the would be completion.

The clock read 7:00 when #7 Colt Pallay 5-11 / 195 threw a pass toward #15 Colin Paltani 5-9 / 180, Paltani was able to tip the ball in the air, which gave #1 Jr Atkinson 5-10 / 190 all of the time he needed to adjust to the ball and intercept it.

Eleven seconds after the pick and on the first play of the drive,#5 Coryon Rice 6-0 / 180 scored on an fifty-two-yard run, where he looked like a young Troy Smith dissecting a bad Michigan defense. Smith, a former Ohio State quarterback, like Rice was a really good running quarterback, who could throw the rock when asked to. The point after kick by,#86 Gavin Costello 6-1 / 238 made this a 7-0 game, with 6:49 left in the first.

With 3:11 left on the clock #27 Isaiah Gray 6-0 / 200 of the Bulldogs stopped #1 Kevin Callahan 5-5 at the three=yard line, holding the runner to a short gain. With 2:08 remaining in the quarter,#31 Adrian Woliver 6-2 / 220 sacked Pallay, for a big loss. Hudson would have to settle for a thirty-two-yard field goal from #14 Grant Gonya 6-0 / 165, to cut the lead to 7-3, with 1:52 left.

The last big play in the quarter came from Rice, who used a nice block from,#31 Adrian Woliver 6-2 / 220 and a nice move, to pick up 39-yards. Rice would go on to have a huge game and be a huge migraine for the Explorers.

Rice would cap off the eight-play, seventy-one-yard drive, with an four-yard touchdown run, with 11:47 left in the half. The point after kick was successful, to make this a 14-3 Stow lead. Dominating front line play was key on this drive for the Bulldogs and would go on to be a tremendous tool, in the running game of the home team.In all honesty Rice made the Hudson defense look in slow motion with his poetry smooth running style.

The Bulldogs defense would get a fumble recovery at the 10:21 mark of the quarter, when #11 Brady Ludewig 6-0 / 180, was stripped of the ball by #27 Isaiah Gray 6-0 / 200 and recovered by #32 Tim Manley 5-10 / 205. The Bulldogs would not be able to cash in on its big break because #21 Dawson Wervey 5-10 / 165 blocked the field goal try.

At the 7:35 mark of the quarter Pallay connected with Paltani, for a twenty-nine-yard gain. That would set up an eleven-yard-run by Pallay, that made this a 14-9 game. The point after kick made this a 14-10 game, with 6:44 left in the half.

Rice would be sacked at the 6:22 mark of the quarter, when he was taken down by #91 Michael Caniglia 6-0 / 175. Rice makes any would be tackler work hard to even get a hand on him, let alone bring him down. Rice would have another set back, with 5:24 left in the half, when he was picked off by #17 Anthony Rightnour 5-9 / 165.

Hudson offense would suffer a sack of their own, when #31 Adrian Woliver 6-2 / 220 got to Pallay. A punt soon followed and with it with Uncle Mo. Hudson never looked settled in on offense in this one and on defense, Rice made them look lost all game long.

Stow ended the scoring in the half, with a short touchdown run by Rice, with 30>4 seconds showing on the clock. The point after kick sent the teams to the locker room, with the Bulldogs leading 21-10.

The 2nd half started with some trickery, when Stow successfully completed an onside kick, that the kicker #86 Gavin Costello 6-1 / 238 recovered. If you want to see a great way to have success with a onside kick, watch the tape from this one.

Rice used a good block from #44 Paulo Gill 5-9 / 233 to pick up thirty-six-yards to the Hudson five-yard-line,with 10:29 left in the half. From there #3 Terrian Wray 6-0 / 170, used some mean work from his line to go two-yards for another Bulldogs touchdown. The point after kick made this a 28-10 game, with 9:39 left in the third.

Defense would be the name of the game for the rest of the quarter, with both teams taking turns making nice plays and delivering some big hits, that all were clean.

10:35 was left in the game, when Rice was sacked by #35 Quincy Edge 5-9 / 200, for a seven-yard-loss.
The Bulldogs got another good play from Woliver, who got to Callahan for a one-yard-loss, with 5:17 left in the game.

Hudson would end a nine-play, seventy-yard-drive, when Pallay hit Paltani , for a touchdown from nine-yards out. After the point after kick, we had a 28-17 game, with 5:02 left.

Stow would need just seven plays to go fifty-four-yards to get their next score. The score came off of a broken play, where Rice overcame not having anyone to hand the ball of to and ended up running for a nine-yard score. The point after made this a 35-17 game.

Hudson showed why they have been so successful this season on their last drive. The game was already decided, which would cause many of teams to just go through the motions on their final drive of the game, but not the Explorers. They would go sixty-five-yards, running twelve plays, with penalties included to score the games final points. The score came on a eighteen-yard pass play from Pallay to Wervey,to make the final score 35-23 Stow.

On the drive Pallay also overcame a big sack from #10 Hayden Bartels 6-1 / 220.
