Nelsonville York 28 Coal Grove 7
Using the rosters from maxpreps.com

At Jackson high school Alumni stadium on Friday night undefeated Nelsonville York battled a very spunky. Coal Grove team, in front of a nice size crowd, who was ready for some playoff football. When all was said and done, this was another easy win for the Buckeyes, and it basically came down to the Hornets not being able to close off the ends and their inability to cover the pass. And I must not forget, the total domination by both sides of the Buckeyes line.

At the 10.01 mark of the opening quarter the Hornets were facing a 3rd and two, when #12 Kyle Sites 5-8 / 160, a Junior took off for a 40-yard gain. The kid showed an extra gear that got him downfield in a hurry. Just twenty second later #8 Nate Harmon 6-2 / 190 made a terrible pass, that was easily picked off by the Buckeyes #6 Chris Cook 5-10 / 150.

The clock showed 9:13 left when the Buckeyes quarterback #9 Garrett Maiden 5-10 / 160, was introduced to 5-11-370 pound #77 Josh Waulk, who pounded the quarterback into the turf, for a 5-yard loss. The big kid might be two steps slow, but if he gets a paw on you,you don't get away.

Defense was ruling the game early, but the Buckeyes had slowly started putting a nice little drive together and with1:59 left in the quarter,Maiden took off on a big run, that gave his squad a first down on the Hornets 42-yard-line.Then Maiden showed off his throwing skills, with a 20-yard strike to #3 Keegan Wilburn 5-10 / 172. Maiden has a lot of skills with his arms and his feet, and seems to have a very high football IQ. The 7-play,87-yard drive came to a happy ending for the Buckeyes, when Maiden found #3 Keegan Wilburn 5-10 / 172, for a 22-yard touchdown. Wilburn was all alone as if the Hornets defense did not know he was on the field. The point after kick made this a 7-0 game.

The Hornets would answer right away and needed just one play to do so and that was a 67-yard run by Sites, who was not touched as he raced downfield leaving everyone well behind him.#2 Evan Holmes 5-11 / 175 locked this one up at seven, with his point after kick. The first quarter had just 1:29 left and it appeared that we had a ball game on our hands.

Maiden would be picked off by #1 Sam Angelo 6-4 / 200,with 7:21 left in the half, as the defense continued to be the vocal point of the game.
The Buckeyes defense overcame the interception and shut the hornets down as easily has they had most of the night, minus the two big runs they had given up earlier.

Nelsonville needed just 3 plays to go the 35-yards they needed for their next score.
The scoring play was a 30-yard run from Wilburn, who made it look very easy, the point after kick gave the Buckeyes a 14-7 lead, with 4:33 left in the half.

:59 seconds after the score, the Buckeyes defense came up big, when sites, put the ball on the ground and the Buckeyes came out of the pile, with it on the Hornets 47-yard-line. The Hornets defense came up with their own fumble recovery at the 2:41 mark of the half, when Maiden coughed the ball up.

With 1:03 left the Hornets got a 14-yard from Sites, who broke a tackle on his way to the gain.
A bad snap from center caused Harmon to be sacked for a 5-yard-loss, with 39:5 seconds left in the half.

After turning the ball over on downs
Luck went from bad to worse for the Hornets when Garrett Maiden had his passed tipped by #15 Joey Workman 6-0 / 160 and the ball landed in the hands of #11 Shakim Williams 6-1 / 175 and all the Buckeye player did was take the ball 54-yards to the house to make this a 20-7 game. The point after kick was hit and this was a 21-7 score, with 4.8 seconds left.

The Buckeyes were able to get around the ends for some big runs in the half and they were able to complete passes to wide open receivers, that the defense seemed to have forgotten about during plays. This never really changed much. On defense during the 2nd half, the Buckeyes defense was dominating giving up only 74 unofficial yards.

At the 9:13 mark of the third quarter #51 Tyler Speelman 5-10 / 185 sacked Harmon for an 8-yard loss
The Hornets punted the ball away a short time later.

It took a nice pass from Maiden to Wilburn, with 3:32 left in the quarter to pick up a third and eight for the Buckeyes. The play picked up over 40-yards and led to a 2-yard run for another Buckeyes score. Making the run was Wilburn, after the point after kick we had ourselves a 28-7 game.

The Hornets put the ball on the ground again at the 3:03 mark of the quarter and making the recovery for Nelsonville York was #21 Bryce Parker-lent 5-9 / 165. It was almost like the life had been taken from the Hornets as nothing was going right for them. Now most of this was because of a suffocating defense from the Buckeyes and mistakes like the fumble.

Defense ruled the final frame as neither team was able to score or do much with the ball.
With 7:44 left Harmon picked up 36-yards on a nice run for the Hornets, that was the biggest play for either offenses in the quarter.

Harmon had a passed tipped and then picked off in the end zone by the Buckeyes #10 Jonathon Richards 6-2 / 170, but a roughing the passer flag was thrown on the play, taking away the pick and giving the Hornets a much needed first down.

#51Tyler Speelman 5-10 / 185 picked up two sacks in the final 3:33 of the game to complete a very good game for himself and the defensive unit.

Coal Grove would get a fumble recovery from #34 Kimo Baldwin 6-0 / 235, who put a nice touch on a fine high school career.

51 was originally 46. He switched numbers midway through season so he could play on the offensive line

. 1:03 left the Hornets got a 14-yard from Sites, who broke a tackle on his way to the gain.
A bad snap from center caused Harmon to be sacked for a 5-yard-loss, with 39:5 seconds left in the half.
Luck went from bad to worse, when Harmon had his passed tipped by his own receiver #15 Joey Workman 6-0 / 160 and the ball landed in the hands of #11 Shakim Williams 6-1 / 175 and all the Buckeye defender did was take the ball 54-yards to the house to make this a 20-7 game. The point after kick was hit and this was a 21-7 score, with 4.8 seconds left.
That’s parts wrong. Harmon threw a pass and it was dropped. Hornets turned the ball over and the Nelsonville York QB threw to his receiver ball was tipped by Workman and he fell down the ball fell into the hands of the receiver and he ran it in for a TD with 4 secs left on the half.
Other than that very good synopsis of the game.

You are correct. When taking notes I did not write down, who threw the ball and when I did the article I made the mistake.
