so it wasn't even really a rivalry or anything close to one until 2008 when wheelersburg started winning some.and that was after bob lutz retired. and actually his name should be on pirate stadium, because he OWNED THE BURG. that's how lopsided this series was till 10 years ago. ironton still leads the overall series. but since 2008 wheelersburg has beat us like a drum. I have never said it's only Ashland myself. because for 1 reason I respected them, and they were always a tough opponent. and it was always an even series that either team could win. I have never said it's only Portsmouth either for the very same reasons. ------------------- actually to anybody from ironton who actually was saying it's only, ----. then they were saying likely it's ''only burg'' cause up to 2008 it was a great Friday night for a homecoming dance. because you guys were down in the series 14-4 to ironton. burg was very beneficial to ironton point wise cause they always won a lot of games.but it was just rarely ever against ironton. ========================================= so now a new chapter begins. I have nothing but compliments to the burg program. they stuck it out playing ironton. they have recruited well, and are back on top. they have toppled the king. and have just as many state championships as ironton now. so let's put the past in the past. and get it on, and see what happens from here on out. few people have shown more respect for burg football than me on here, to not be a burg fan. but I was with ya'll every play of the state championship game this fall rooting for ya;ll. as well as in the bleachers in 89 when you and ironton both won state title games. but how bout a bit of respect here n there.
I think everyone respects ironton. I think the burgs dominated enough recently where we can move on a little bit from the pre 2007 games. Those games were close, good hard hitting ballgames usually decided in the 4 quarter. The games now are a joke.
Put the past behind us. Your entire post is about the past.

yeah, and yer point is.
Enough of bait and his “we we we us us us I I I”!!! - when he use to actually go to the games he was the first person to slobber around and call out lutz and burcham and the plays they called and now he gets on here and acts like he is the biggest tiger fan everybody on this site sees through it!!!

I would talk about the past to since the avg score of the last 7 games is 40-8 :o
That would probably be worse without the running clock rule
here are the burg/ironton results ----------------- no games in the 70's and before.
82- ironton- 29-burg 14
83 ironton- 28-burg -14
94 ironton-14- burg 7
95 ironton -36-burg 12
95-IRONTON 41-burg 8 playoffs
96-burg 34-ironton -6
97-ironton 10-burg 7
98-burg 21 - ironton 0
99-burg 10-ironton 7
00-ironton 10-burg 0
01 ironton 42 burg 0
02-ironton 24-burg 9
03 ironton 22 burg 10
04 ironton 21 burg 0
05-ironton 7 burg 6
06-ironton 24- burg 21.
07 burg 39-ironton 6.
08 ironton won, unsure of score.

there you have it, those are the facts. I love this game myself. and hope it is always played. I don't have an idea of scores since 2008. but as said it was an average loss of 40-8 I would have thought it was worse. so with all that said. I'm anxious for this game whether I can be there or not. if not, i'll be tuned in.

It's a loss for Ironton this year. How they handle it will go a long way to determine the rest of their season. Pendleton is a great guy. This is his first year with Head Coach Duty. That means he will need to develop his scheme, a lot of it will be trial and error.

Can he turn it around? Not by himself... But if the Tiger Faithful remain faithful, he has a chance.

When burg started the series with ironton in the 90s it was to help with their strength of schedule. Ironton was a great program and was the bigger school. When jobs left, it became a smaller school. I can’t emphasize enough how difficult it is to be a good small school program in football. Pendleton is a passionate football guy. Knows the game more than most and from all accounts is a motivator, but for ironton to become what they once were, he’s going to have to make some decisions that will ruffle some feathers. If he can do that, he will get the job done. Then hopefully he will stay.

08 - Burg 23-22
09 - Ironton 24-8
10 - Ironton 12-7
11 - Ironton 42-13
12 - Ironton 32-27
13 - Burg 49-12
14 - Burg 42-16 and Burg 38-7
15 - Burg 14-6 and Burg 38-7
16 - Burg 49-6
17 - Burg 48-3

It appears Ironton still holds a 17-12 all time series lead, but in the past decade, the tide definitely turned.

I do think that Ironton will be a better team with Pendleton at the helm. But I do believe that he won't have enough time this year to have his team totally prepared so in my opinion maybe the 2019 season we will see improvement in Irontons program and hopefully the kids and especially the parents will buy into what coach Pendleton is trying to accomplish and if that happens I believe that ironton could be good again. It took coach Woodward 5 years to totally have everyone but into his way of doing things and it's definitely working. I am a Burg graduate that wants to see the the games that Burg and Ironton used to have those were very exciting so hopefully ironto just took the first step in reviving their program

I'D LIKE TO HEAR SOME PREDICTIONS FROM PIRATE LAND TO PUT ON THE BULLETIN BOARD IN THE BELLY OF TANK'S MEMORIAL STADIUM THIS FALL. I THINK THIS GAME MAY JUST SUPRISE SOME.

When you say surprise do you mean an ironton victory? A 14-21 spread? No running clock?

Im glad Ironton got a new coach and a new attitude but they are not going to the Burg with all the talent The Pirates has returning and coming out with a win. And i wont be suprised .. just like yhe last few years. What most Ironton fans would like is an 8-2 record with dedication to playing and representing the correct way. No personal fouls and a smart team that is in shape and turns the corner to again being a smart , physical team that the town can be proud of ..

Not really looking at any drop off for burg. They have a ton of talent returning. To go from what ironton put on the field last year to competing with a top 5 D5 team is a huge leap.

honestly in my heart of hearts. I'm not predicting this at all. but I am dreaming of it. by surprise I meant a way more competitive game. that's a tough 1st game for anybody. frankly I don't know what ironton has coming back, and or what wheelersburg lost. so I don't know if they have the horses yet. but I know the staff, and I know they'll come in thinking nothing but an upset over the pirates. but everybody knows that's going to be a tall task. you are going to see a very different fighting tiger team this year. but everybody is waiting to see if we'll be more physical, disciplined and fundamental. and not shooting ourselves in the foot with 15 yarders. win/lose if we see an improvement there, then we'll know we're heading in the right direction. but there are no moral victories in sports.
