Congradulations for this long awaited decision by the Wellston BOE. This will benefit Wellston and Jackson in the coming years. This was no rivalry for the last 30 years. It was nothing but a way to balance the budget. Get to work and balance it some other way than on the backside of 17 year old boys.

As for Jackson people, it is tiresome to listen to your elitist attitudes. After all you are only Jackson.

As for scheduling let me assure Jackson will never keep a team on their schedule that Jackson beats only one time in 30 years.

I am glad Wellston made this decision before I was 2old.

It’s laughable the arrogance from Jackson people. This game does nothing to the athletic budget. Athens budget for cost is $700,000 a year. This game probably makes $5,000 to $10,000 more than an average game. I’m sure Wellston’s budget is $500,000. I went to this one year, it didn’t seem like a huge attendance like an Athens vs Nelsonville York

I think Jackson played Winton Woods 2 or 3 years ago. Maybe if it wasn’t a 2 hour and 30 minute bus ride.
Winton Woods could be a 3 minute bus ride and it wouldn't happen. I look for Jackson to canvas the area D4's and D5's: Piketon, Minford, Waverly, Unioto, Zane Traces, etc., and doubt they will make an effort with Athens, but even if they did Athens likes their Warren (D3) guaranteed win and won't budge off of that game. Raider calling Jackson arrogant is about the dumbest thing he has said today, I mean, seriously, Pot meet Kettle. But tomorrow he will top it so it doesn't matter.

Clearly the right move for Wellston and it isn't really even a close call.

Cost for extracurricular activities. Athens is $680,000. Jackson is actually $100,000 more than Athens

Just look at Jackson. Taylor makes 6500, Larry Hall makes 4500, Huff 3100, Williams 2300, Potter 5,000, Potter 7,000, GlassBurn 2500, Andy Hall makes 10,300. Also Andy Hall makes 15,000 plus more than the same social studies teachers. I’m missing another paid coach. So just the coaches cost Jackson at least $60,000.

Jackson football is run off of state money so it’s a joke for Jackson people saying Wellston needs this game

Everyone understands why Jackson people say Wellston needs this game, and TBH some Wellston folks say this also, but there has been a growing number that are ready to change it up. The argument about money is really nonsensical if you think about it, 7k per year is the add and that is if you assume that no new opponent brings a single soul. That isn't the case, Oak Hill (the likely choice) will bring >50% of what Jackson would have so the 7k/YR number is now approximately 3.5k/YR, which is completely manageable. Only Jackson fans incapable of basic arithmetic (or clouded by other reasoning) fail to understand that the Rocket boosters can offset that difference.

Question remains if Jackson or Athens has the sack to schedule each other in Week 1 - I still maintain that is very unlikely.

Jackson should jump on scheduling Athens. Wouldn't be the cake walk like Wellston, more like a pie walk.

The only ones arguing over this game is Athens and wellston fans. Most Jackson fans are also glad it's over . Wellston vs Oak hill is the Jackson county game that makes the most sense. Adding Athens would really help Jackson or Athens in playoff points . Most year they win 6-7-8 games. Logan is coming back on the schedule in 2019.
Plus Burg and Chilli are good games. Those 4 games to go along with the FAC is a schedule that is respectable .

Yeah, after Andy Hall told Athens doesn’t deserve game tape of Jackson and then he’s also mad Athens left it’s first team defense in up 49-0. Plus Athens has another coaches kid at QB the next 3 years

I know. Both coaches need to hug it out. Both are in weak conferences so always a big points game

I don't have FB, but heard this game was being dropped and knew I could find some "commentary" on SEOPs... boy was I right!

I don't know what "arrogant" Jackson posters you all are referencing, but I must've missed all of those comments.

All I can say is that I hate to see any local game/rivalry dwindle away. I understand it, but hate it.

Unequivocally, my greatest memories in high school sports come from these local rivalry games. As a player, I do not recall one instance where I questioned the size of the school I was playing against, it was strictly me playing against the guy across from me (and I just looked up our league school enrollments when I played, 4 league schools were significantly larger, 2 were smaller). In local games, I knew the player across from me 99% of the time. To this day, we have a circle of friends that all played at Wellston/Jackson/Oak Hill/VC and we talk sports almost every time we are together. If I got beat in football, I likely won in basketball, or baseball, or beer pong... something.

I fully understand the decision, but I hate it for the players' sake.

The BEST thing about people from Wellston is that they have JACKSON on their license plates!

The last 4 years Wellston is a combined 8-0 in the following 2 weeks and only 2 of those wins were less than 3 TD and all 8 by at least 12 points. They’ve truly dominated the next two weeks after their Jackson loss each of the past 4 seasons.

The average score of those 8 games that followed the Jackson losses.... Wellston 38 Opponent 13
