Wellston drops Jackson starting in 2020

Post by Ironman92 »

Wellston kids won’t get the chance to beat the Ironmen starting in 2020. The Wellston BOE wanted it dropped for this season but it is still under contract for 2018 and 2019. The Wellston AD and Superintendent don’t want this game dropped.

Good. Now Wellston can schedule Miller, South Gallia, Ports Notre Dame or Purple and start every year 1-0.

Both communities want this game. The BOE shouldn’t be able to take this away from them. Pitiful!!!

Board members put pressure on AD to drop them.

That’s a shame. I work with people from both communities and they look forward to this game every year. This will make Wellston look scared just like Portsmouth did when they dropped Burg.

Oh well.

Need to get Athens....nice gate, good facility and they beat up and get a lot of points from TVC teams.

Gallia Academy would be worthy.

Nelsonville would be a great gate and great opponent....tons of points if you beat them. Nice facility.

Point Pleasant? Waverly?

Wellston should have done this earlier. Jackson's program is too much for the Rockets and they need to schedule where they have a better chance to win. No shame there. If Athens can schedule down in 6 or 7 games Wellston should beable to.

No, can’t play. They will be banged up for the next 3 weeks or something. Wellston kids don’t care, they’ll lace em up and battle.

I’m sure they’ll be playing Oak Hill in game 1 in 2020

That needs to happen. Right now playing Warren week 1 kills Athens for playoff points

Hate to see local rivalries go by the wayside all for the sake of “points”.

This is something I don't understand. Wellston and NY are d5 or d6. NY plays Athens tight or beats them. When NY scrimmaged Jackson, they were never blowouts. When Wellston and Jackson play anymore, it's always a blowout. Why is that? I've even seen Wellston play Athens competitively. You would think with some of the athletes Wellston has, it would be competitive. It sad to see how one sided this has gotten, and now to the point of ending. It's sad.

Your coach seems to really have them busting their tails lifting and power lifting....very high team gpa. I know Wellston has athletes and tough kids. I don’t really know the issue and it’s not really fair to guess but Wellston should be able to compete with Jackson at least every other year.

Wellston gates $14,000-$15,000 the years they host Jackson....I bet that is about as much as they make from home gate for all 5 home games the years they play at Jackson.

Wellston has a lot of non revenue sports to pay for.

$7k per year then.

Oak Hill will be very close to same gate, even if it is only half that means $3.5k per year. Not hard to replace that.

Time had come, time for change.

Let's see if D3 Athens and Jackson do the right thing here, I say probably not.

If wellston doesn't want that 15k payday, then I hope VC takes it. Would love to see VC and Jackson again now that VC has climbed out of the 1-9 hole. Not that it would be an even series but I think the money would be worth it.

Let me guess! The chunky rocket Mom squad complained to the BOE and now they are in the business of scheduling games. What a bunch of horse crap. It was good for business when JHS whipped the rockets. Lots of people looking for comfort food. Cheesecake sold like crazy to the mommas in town.

The BEST thing about people from Wellston is that they have JACKSON on their license plates!

I understand completely. Starting 0-1 virtually every year stinks.
As for Jackson beating up an average or below average smaller school, does nothing but give them a win,it does nothing as far as preparing them for schools they will see in the playoffs.
