2018 Region 23 Offseason Talk and Outlook

Post by EasternDspy »

Who are the early favorites?

What does Coal Grove and Southeastern Return?

Steubenville Central returns very good Qb

Shenandoah returns Boone Jones

Fort Frye returns 8 on defense 6 on offense including 4 year starting QB Tate Engle. Reg season Record of 29-1 and overall of 32-4 as a starter.

Nelsonville always making noise

East Knox was on the rise.

Nelsonville-York should be good this year.
The Buckeyes strength will be the offensive and defensive lines as well as some kid people may have heard of named Keegan Wilburn....
I'll be able to tell more after 7 on 7's and a couple of scrimmages.
We have kids working hard in the weight room and we definitely have some leaders who will work hard to make their teammates better.

Going into last year I thought we had a team that would win 7 or 8 ges and compete for a league titles.
After week 2, I knew we had a team that would win a regional championship. We have kids who are ready to step up.
It's Nelsonville-York, so it's always next man up year after year.

Southeastern was a one year wonder, they will be lucky to win 5 games this fall.

They do return their very quick and athletic QB Ruby but the 2 good RBs were seniors and I'm pretty sure most of the starters were seniors. I saw them once last year and thought that running the wing T was not really suited to their personnel, every teams goal will be to key on Ruby and make him single handedly beat you. Like I said, I think 5 wins is the ceiling for them this year.

Coal Grove loses 8 staters overall. Returns a 1,000 yard rusher, and a good quarterback. Return at least 8 people who started/saw a good amount of playing time this year. I think they should have a very solid year and return to the playoffs

Grandview Hts will be low on numbers which in it self creates issues if injuries occur. The Bobcats have to replace James Lachey who was 1st team all Ohio and was an offensive force and defensvie force. There is talent in the upcoming Junoir class. Very tough schedule.
Week 1 at Columbus Centennial
Week 2 vs Columbus Africentric
Week 3 at Zanesville Rosecrans
Week 4 vs Columbus Ready
Week 5 at Bexley
Week 6 vs Whitehall
Week 7 vs London
Week 8 at Liberty Union
Week 9 at Logan Elm
Week 10 vs Columbus Academy.

Gut tells me 5-5 but could be anywhere between 3-7 and 6-4 if stay injury free. Wins will probably be Centennial, Africentric , Rosecrans, Ready is possible, Bexley but will be improved. Whitehall, London, Liberty Union Logan Elm and Columbus Academy will be tuff to win but in 2017 Liberty Union and Logan Elm were wins.

At this point it's hard enough to guess who makes the playoffs let alone who will be the top 4 seeds

I would think Southeastern would be around 8-2 no worse than 7-3. They return everyone on the line and a dynamic quarterback that is only getting better. Now after this season I could see them having a big drop off but would be shocked if they lost more than 3 ball games in 2018.

Fort Frye could go 10-0 and not get a home seed depending on what Steubenville Central and Shenandoah does.

To be honest it would be more of a guess because I have thrown all my previews away.

I do not see any of them being a serious threat to make the playoffs, but I do believe the region will once again be very weak.
I will say as I said last year, not one team in reg 23 has a legit threat to be a serious state contender.

Coal Grove and Fort Frye are the early favorites. Let's see how some of these teams develop over the summer and early in the season. Schools like East Knox could surprise. We will know how good Nelsonville - York is after week 2. They could start 2-0 or 0-2. That makes or breaks a season there too.

Really excited to watch this years Fort Frye team. They might be a little smaller but they will be way quicker. Watch out for RB Tyler Fisher and Wr Brady Schilling. Also Caden Fryman and Brenden Huck are going to be 2 of the better LBs in the region.
