It was supposed to be originally I believe, but last I heard they were going with grass. Unless something changed.

Can’t wait to see final outcome, grass seems logical choice in long run with the flooding. Go Cats!

Its going to be rolled sod is my understanding. The Edwards family generously donated $50,000 to the improvement fund today. A big thank you to them, NY and Trimble may be rivals on the field but off it they're always willing to lend a hand

Week 2 is your home opener isn't it?
Maybe you guys should do that one on a Saturday. You'd bring in a lot of county folks from other schools who wanna see the new facility.

GLOUSTER, Ohio —
A tiny town in Athens County has been trying to rebuild a relic a couple dollars at a time. Trimble High School in Glouster has raised more than half a million dollars to replace its 1930's-era football stadium but it still needs another half million dollars to complete the project.

The original stadium was built as part of the Works Project Administration. That program by the Franklin D. Roosevelt Administration was designed to put people to work during the Great Depression.

"This was like the Coliseum in Rome when you walk in this stadium as a kid," said Jerry Lackey, a former Trimble Tomcat player who has been raising money for the stadium.

Last fall school officials had to close off the stadium because it was in danger of collapsing. This spring it was torn down.

"A stadium that took two years to build came down in eight hours," Lackey said.

"When we talked with the stadium guy, he said 'you know you got about 80 years out of something that usually lasts about 25,'" said Trimble School Board President Dave Owen.

On Thursday Joe Edwards from nearby Nelsonville gave the school district a check for $50,000 for the project.

"These people around you, they aren't takers," Edwards said. "These guys are givers and in these small communities that's what makes them work."

The total price tag for the new stadium is $1.2 million. Lackey said $658,000 has already been raised.

"Raising $1.2 million $5 at a time, that's a lot of raffle tickets," Lackey said. "We don't care because we will continue and we won't stop until we get this facility built and completed for these kids."

He said he knows getting another $600,000 won't be easy.

"We are in Appalachia," he said. "It's an impoverished area. We need all the help we can get."

Anyone interested in donating can contact Jared Bunting, the Trimble Local Schools Treasurer at 740-767-4444

Yes, they are a great family and extremely generous not only to the NY district and communities but to the surrounding communities as well. This was greatly appreciated and I might add Jim Edwards contacted us, we did not reach out to them to ask for the money.

Has to be the best family in southern ohio. They let all the schools use the theater for no cost. They buy charter buses for the county schools in the playoffs. Broadcast the area schools on TV

Too bad first game in the tomcat dome won’t be against them
Looks to me like the opening game will be played with the fans sitting on piles of concrete from the old stadium.

Just drove through Glouster the other day and seen that they were making progress on the Tomcat Dome. I stopped and I spoke to some guys there and they said everything will be done a couple weeks ahead of schedule. No matter what happens, if they do what they said they’re doing. The new stadium will be nice compared to what they used to have. Hats off to them all for what they’re doing.
