(Game Report)All star game- Ohio 22 Pa. 20

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

Last night at Reilly Stadium in Salem, Ohio, one all star team from Pa went to battle with a team from Ohio,in a game that was very competitive and at times a little chippy, with some questionable calls. All in all this was an solid all star game for a nice size crowd that attended.

Just :47 seconds into the game, Mitch Davidson, a quarterback for team Ohio, from Salem high school, used his feet to pick up an Ohio first down. Then at the 10:03 mark of the opening quarter Michael Clendenning one of the Ohio running backs made a nice none yard run, to keep things going for his team. The Ohio drive was looking even better when,Davidson connected with Will Grodhaus a six yard completion, to pick up another first down. Clendenning would be stopped for an three yard loss by Dozhay Crumb, with 8:05 left in the quarter. The drive would end without any points be scored.

The Pa offense coughed up the ball, with 6:55 left in the quarter and recovering it for Ohio was, Danny Moore on the Pa. thirty four yard line.
Ohio needed just one play to light the scoreboard, when TJ Deshields connected with Mathis Combs for the touchdown. Combs played his high school ball for South Range. The point after was successful by kicker Jared Bryarly,
7-0 Ohio with 6.48 left in the first quarter,

The Pa defense was stopped on three plays and was set to punt with 5:24 left in the quarter. Punter Carson Gilarno had his pun blocked by Cameron Summers, giving Ohio a first down on the Pa. twenty three yard line. The Pa. defense would step up and hold Ohio to a field goal by Bryarly, to make it a 10-0 game with 2:02 left in the first half.. The Pa. defense was able to get to Davidson for a 14 yard loss, due to a mishandled snap.

With 10:25 left in the half Ohio faced a fourth and one and they opted to go for it and that choice paid off when,Clendenning easily picked up the yard. The Pa defense would Ohio to another field goal from Bryarly, this time from thirty four yards out, to make this a 13-0 game, with Ohio leading, with 7:33 left in the half.

With 4:11 left in the half Pa. faced a fourth and two and they elected to go for it and that paid off well, when the only QB on the Pa. roster,Cole Konieczka hit Keshawn Shepard, for a thirty four yard score. The point after from,Gilarno made this a 13-7 game.
Ohio struck back on just one play when,Davidson hit Aniello Buzzacco for a sixty two yard touchdown, with 3:44 left in the half. The point after making this a 20-7 game,

The last big play of the opening half came with 1:26 left and it was a interception from pick by Mahlik Strozier on an Ohio pass from Deshields.

Pa. came out on fire to start the third quarter. Just fifteenth seconds in a thirteen yard connection with Jacob Bunofsky got things going. Bunofsky along with Noah Drudy for Pa, was the two players that caught my eye. Drudy would make tackle after tackle, but never got his name called by the Public Announcer. With 11:01 left in the quarter Bunofsky took in a pass from Konieczka, that was good for forty three yards. Then facing a fourth and six, Pa. went for broke and that decision paid off, when Ohio was called for pass interference, with 8:57 showing on the clock. Pa, tried a halfback pass at the 8:53 mark and Ohio was ready for it, with Geno DiBiase picking off the pass.

The defense continue to play well in the third and with 2:29 left Ohio's Peyton Remish sacked Konieczka in the end zone for a safety, making this a 22-7 game. After the safety Ohio kicked off and that turned into another big play for PA.,when Bunofsky returned the kick for a eighty six yard score. The point after was blocked, leaving this a 22-13 game with 2:14 left in the quarter.

Pa would play off of the giant kickoff return and that led to a Kyle Marweg picking off another Ohio pass thrown by Deshields, with 1:04 showing on th3 clock. The quarter ended with PA. picking up a first down on third and thirteen. The teams entered the final frame, with Ohio leading but Pa. had all of the momentum.

Verily into the fourth quarter Konieczka found Dozhay Crumb for a score. The point after making this a 22-20 game. That safety turned out to be a gigantic play because after the Pa. score that made this a 22-20 game, neither team was able to score again.

There were some plays that stuck out in the last 5:00 of the game.
The first was a muffed snapped on a punt by Gilarno led to him being tackled for a big loss by Remish. Remish and Clendenning were the two Ohio players that stuck out to me. Mahki Robinson stripped Ohio running back,Will Grodhaus, with 3'33 left. Then there was a sack from Ohio's Ben Santana on Konieczka, with 3:12 left. Just twenty one seconds later, another sack for Ohio, this time it came from Ryan Musch.
Then the final big play of the quarter came when Konieczka was picked off by Zach Phillips, with twenty three seconds left.

FINAL 22-20 Ohio
