Greatest Wheelersburg Coach

Post by Rosco »

Who is the greatest gridiron coach in Pirate history? Ed Miller or Rob Woodward?

Wouldn’t touch that one. Wheelersburg is very very lucky to have had both of them.

How so?

For what it's worth. I would choose Ed Miller today. Level of success was sustained longer at this point. Doesn't mean he can be surpassed.

What's your order Jolly?

There haven’t been many losing coaches in our history and none since Ed Miller. So to go through and Rank them, it’s ignorant. We have been blessed with a great community with more support than anyone could ask for. That’s the greatest coach in Wheelersburg history. Our kids have been coached to be great people.

LMBO

Jolly P(irate)'s lips moved but he didn't say anything.
Jolly P(irate) = Jim Tressel

Here is my stab at it.
1. Ed Miller - Icon. State title. Built the program to state level prominence.
2. Larry Hall - Woodward has the trophy but Hall had the Burg at a very high level too. I have them at a tie
2. Rob Woodward - only one with a shot at moving up the list. Has the title but it is in a watered down format with the addition of an extra division the others didn't have the benefit of coaching in.
4. Jim Gill - Good teams but didn't take Pirate ship to levels of the above three.

In all fairness to coach Gill he stepped in twice at short notice to fill in as an interim head coach and did a great job both times. The burg was never his program to do with what he wanted. His first stint was one of the better head coaching jobs I’ve seen.

If you’re going to take a stab at it, make it a good one.

1. Ed Miller
2. Rob Woodward
3. Larry Hall

These are all obvious.

Good list Jolly P(irate). No right or wrong. Just one man/woman's opinion.

This has to be hard to do because these guys both coached really talented kids who deserve much of the credit.
