Article:Miami East Runs to 52-28 win over Bethel

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

Last night I made my first ever drive to Casstown, Ohio to watch the home team Miami East battle Bethel out of Tipp City.
Both schools come in off of their first loss of the season. Both teams stand 3-1 on the season.
After shutting down the Bees offense, the Vikings offense took the field and on their first play from the line of scrimmage Aaron Lawrence took off down the sideline and picked up about 43 yards. Though the drive ended a short time later, the Vikings were able to show a glimpse of how strong their running game would be, before all was said and done.

The Vikings defense would sink the Bees offense very quickly on their next drive, as they held them to negative four yards.
On the first drive the Bees offense had managed just one yard. The Vikings were much bigger than their counterparts and this would slowly start to take a toll on the Bees.

Justin Brown would field the punt and take it all the way back to the Bees 23 yard line, with the return gaining close to 40 yards. From there the Vikings needed 5 plays to go the 23 yards needed , for the games first score. The scoring play came after a 17 yard run from #24 Austin Francis. The Vikings worked the ball down to the 2 yard line and from there it would be Vincent Villella plowing in for the score. The point after kick from Wesley Sutherly made this a 7-0 game, with 6:01 left on the clock.

The Bees tried a backward pass that landed on the ground, and when no whistle sounded Brown scooped up the ball and race in from about 20 yards out to make this a 13-0 game, with the point after kick pending. The kick was good and this was a 15-0 game, with 5:24 left in the opening quarter.

The Vikings defense would stay strong, with Colt Frazier putting Kendall James down for a 5 yard loss, with 4:34 left on the clock.
The Bees defense would stand stout at the 3:24 mark, when Adam Powell got to Kaleb Nickels for a 4 yard loss, with 3:24 left.
The Vikings would sail into the end zone again with a little over a minute left in the quarter, when Ian Gengler found Hunter Gross for a 3 yard touchdown pass. The point after increased the Vikings lead to 21-0.

With 9:46 left in the 2nd quarter Brown would pick off a Jacob Ullmer and return it to the Bees 47 yard line, setting up a first and ten for the Vikings potent offense. The Bees defense would stand tall and shut down the Vikings and force a punt, just a few plays later.

Ullmer used his feet to gain 51 yards, at the 7:06 mark. He again used his quick feet this time to go 7 yards for the Bees first score. The point after kick from #10 was good to make this a 21-7 game, with 6:22 left in the half.

Brown would take the ball 57 yards on the first play of the drive for another Vikings score. After another successful point after kick, we had a 28-7 game, with6:05 left. Brown, who came into this game banged up was not suppose to play as much as he did. Kid is a gamer, for sure.

The Bees would go on a very long 16 play, 80 yard drive, that came to a climax om a 1 yard run from Ullmer.
The point after kick made this a 28-14 game, with :003 left in the half.

Just :58 into the third quarter Vincent Villella sprinted to a 42 yard gain. Nice blocking from his line made this long run look very easy.
The Bees defense showed some life, when Alec Maus got to Kaleb Nickels, for a loss of eight yards. The Vikings overcame the negative play with a 28 yard field goal from Sutherly, to make this a 31-14 game, with 8:27 left in the third.

The Bees offense would respond with a 4 play, 66 yard drive to make this a 31-21 game. The score came on a 35 Yard run by Ullmer. Ullmer had taken over the offense for the Bees as far as making things happen and he was doing with his feet and nice blocking from all of his offensive unit. The point after kick made this a 31-21 game, with 6:44 left.

Before the third quarter would come to a close, the Vikings would get a third down conversion, on a nice run from Brown, who took the ball down to the Bees 15 yard line. The drive ended with a 15 yard run from Vincent Villella. The point after again was good, making this a 38-21 game.

The action continued in the fourth quarter, with three more touchdowns being scored. The Vikings got a touchdown from Brown on a 57 yard run and then they got another one, when Villella muscled his way in from 3 yards out. Sandwiched in between the two Vikings scores was a 47 yard run from Ullmer.

The game ended with the Vikings posting the 52-28 win.
Both teams had their own superstar in this one, with Jacob Ullmer leading the Bees, while the ever talented Justin Brown led the hometown Vikings.
