Article: Bellaire 41 Buckeye Local 6

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

Yesterday I made my way back to Bellaire to watch the Big Reds battle Buckeye Local.
Bellaire entered with a 5-0 record, while Buckeye Local limped in with a 0-4 record.
I took this one in because I thoroughly enjoy the games at Nelson Field, really like seeing and I wanted to see Buckeye Local for the first time ever.

As expected Bellaire started fast in this one, but did it with its defense, when Cole LaRoche and Levi Littell got to Seth Richardson for a six yard loss and forced a Panther punt.

The Bellaire offense would take just three plays to light up the scoreboard, when Cole Porter sprinted thirty three yards for the score, making it a 6-0 game, with 9:58 left in the quarter.

At the 8:30 mark LaRoche scored on a pick six, when it appeared he himself tipped the Richardson pass. The returned went for forty two yards or so and after the point after kick from #11 LaRoche, this was a 13-0 game, just 8:30 into the game.

Richardson would put the ball on the ground with 8:22 showing on the clock and making the recovery for Bellaire was Trace Sechrest.Buckeye Local has a history of starting slow in games and yesterday was no different. Bellaire would fail to capitalize on the fumble recovery, when LaRoche coughed the ball up and making the recovery for the Panthers was Jacob Still.
The turnover Fest continued when Richardson was picked off by Porter, who took it to the house from about thirty seven yards out. After the point after kick was successful, we had a 20-0 game, with 6:53 still left in the opening quarter.

Jacob Still would sack Bellaire quarterback Bobby Roth, at the 5:07 mark of the quarter for a six yard loss.
The Panthers defense was put behind the eight ball by their offense, but they never stopped giving it their all.
Say what you will about those players, but there seems to be no quit in them.

Roth would connect with LaRoche for a nineteen yard gain that would have gone for much more, if not for a good tackle by Corban Westfall. The Big Reds would score again, on a fourteen yard run by Porter, then the point after kick was successful, this was a 27-0 game, with 4:15 still left in the opening quarter.

Quentin Baker would bat down a Richardson pass, but then seven seconds later, Richardson would connect on a twenty nine yard pass to Jacob Moffo, who appeared to be the best of the Panthers receivers and only a Junior. Another sack on Richardson this time by Zach Kolenich, for a three yard loss also getting on in the sack was Baker.

Bellaire who had been a pass first, second and third and run only as a shock a defense, has become a running team and they have gotten pretty good with it. The first quarter would have one more big play from Bellaire and it was a twenty nine gut run by Kaleb Pitchford.

Bobby Roth would be pressured by the Panthers defense, who got a sack and a fumble recovery by Gage Kornetti . on the Bellaire nine yard line, wiith8:10 left in the half.Richardson would connect with Brian Plamer for a nine yard score to make this a 27-6 game, with the
two point conversion failing.

The last 6:21 of the half would see just three significant plays.
The first was a sack of Roth by the Panthers Hunter Darrah and Ben Bailey, for a five yard loss.
Then there was a sack of Richardson from Griffen Heatherington, for a four yard loss.
The final play came with just a little over a minute left, with Jack Reese recovering a Porter fumble and returning it for twenty plus yards.

Bellaire would get a nice twenty six yard run from Porter but the Panthers defense would force a Bellaire punt a short time later.
Richardson, who had little to no blocking all game long from his offensive line would get sacked four more times, with the first two sacks coming from Heatherington. The other two sacks came from Zach Kolenich and Heatherington again.
The third would also see a fumble by Roth, that the Panthers Plamer pounced on.

In the final frame with many of the younger players, playing for both teams, we would see a Roth two yard quarterback sneak for a Bellaire touchdown, with the point after kick making this a 34-6 game. On the ensuing kickoff the Panthers sort of stood around allowing Heatherington to race down field and fall on the ball.

The final score of the game came on a twelve yard run by Kaleb Pitchford, who lowered his shoulder and plowing over a would be tackler.
The point after making this a 41-6 game. Bellaire would end up recovering the kickoff, after a mishandle by the Panthers return team.

Staying with the turnover Fest, this game had one more before the final gun sounded and that came on a fumble by Jaren Cash, that the Panthers Zach Cesario recovered.
