Marietta won’t let Dover band do halftime
Re: Marietta won’t let Dover band do halftime
I know the game that I went to last week had Senior night, and it started at 6:15 pre-game, with kickoff at 7:00. Both Bands played at halftime.

And a lot of them leave after the halftime show.Raider6309 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 16, 2018 5:51 pm I'd say a lot games in Ohio, the band parents make up a large part of the attendance.
Hell, some of them even wear T shirts that say “I’m just here for the band.”

I heard Dover has a 275 pound drummer who runs a 4.4 that is dressing to play football this week only looking for revenge.

Who knows, we could see a thread titled "Dover drummer a call from Urban".

Boyd County didn't let South Point's band play this year at half time. It was because the Boyd band doesn't perform so no other band could either. Boyd has more of a pep band.
Re: Marietta won’t let Dover band do halftime
Did anyone ever hear the real reason as to why the Dover band was not allowed to play?

Nope.
But I do like the idea of letting the band guys play once Dover gets to a running clock. Put on the pads and face the music!

I’ve heard it has something to do with Marietta’s Athletic Hall of Fame, maybe introducing inductees? Quick Google search, found an article about last year’s class that was around this same time (didn’t specifically say they did anything at the game, but seems to make sense that they would).

Thank you! They may do this every year at the last home game.enigmaax wrote: ↑Wed Oct 17, 2018 7:03 pmI’ve heard it has something to do with Marietta’s Athletic Hall of Fame, maybe introducing inductees? I am chairman of the Hall of Fame. It was September 28th this year.
Dover game is sr. night for fall athletes, cheerleaders, dance team, etc.
That is all I know.

I’m just glad Marietta is getting some attention. I almost forget they exist until seeding time
Re: Marietta won’t let Dover band do halftime
I wasn't at the game, but I have a friend from Jackson who has a daughter who is a Senior in the Band, he said that he and his wife were there early as Senior night was held Pre-Game , and that yes both Bands did perform at halftime.

Still unsure why people are complaining about the band not playing on a football forum. Anyways, its very common for people to whine about something before they know the facts or details. Marietta holds a Senior night for all the senior fall sport athletes. They do this every year and they do it the same way each year. I don't ever recall another school complaining about it, probably due to having more respect for the opposing home field school. They do the cheerleading and football players pregame and all other fall sports at halftime. Its a very lengthy ordeal. I'm sure the Marietta band members are equally as bummed they're not preforming, as well as their parents. But I also know they respect their school and fellow senior classmates that deserve recognition and will still be there supporting and preforming in the stands to support their team as they always do....regardless of if they have 20 or 100 members or the quality of their band skill as some have noted above. Knowing this was made aware to all parties involved well ahead of the game was the proper way to handle this. Different schools have different ways of honoring their athletes and no need to bash a school because of that. Maybe that kindler, gentler generation where people are easily offended and think everyone deserves it being fair could be it. Well, fair is both bands not preforming and properly recognizing the fall athletes. Curious to see the respect the Dover fans and athletes will show for the honored Marietta athletes since they feel they were slighted.

Maybe Marietta College wouldn’t let them. Heard through the grapevine that Marietta high school pays the college $50,000 a year to use Don Drum stadium.
