Article:Eastmoor Academy 20 Sheridan

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

On Friday night I made my second trip to Lancaster, Fulton Field to catch the playoff game between Eastmoor Academy and Thornville Sheridan. This would be my first time seeing Eastmoor Academy ever, who was the higher see/ home team, but was made to set on the visitors side. The reason given was they, Eastmoor sold less tickets than the Generals did.

The Columbus City League has a history of bad things happening at their games, usually in the stands and this game was no different. A big fight broke out that last 5 minutes, maybe a little longer and not one police officer made it to the stands to break up the 3 giants, all close to 300 pounds or so. This will just add more criticism to the league and make all of the good fans the league has look even worse.

The Generals would face a third and ten on their opening drive when Landon Russell caught a nicely thrown ball from Ethan Heller to move the chains. Russell was wide opened as he ran a nice route and left his man no where to be found. The Generals would again find themselves facing a third down, that they were able to convert, after Heller pulled down a high snap composed himself and then picked up the first down.
With 9:12 left on the clock and on the eighth play of the drive, Heller pulled off a sweet QB draw for a 43-yard score. Te point after kickoff of the foot of Cole Casto would make this a 7-0 game. The drive total 78 yards.

The Warriors have speed to burn and this would show big-time at the 7:22 mark of the opening quarter, when Marquise Laster dropped back to pass and found Roshaun Harper for a 59-yard gain.Kylan Birchmore would close out the drive with a 7-yard touchdown run.A bad snap on the point after kick left the score 7-6, with 7:00 left.

Elliah Jennings would sacked Heller for a four-yard loss, at the 4:43 mark of the quarter.
The Warriors defense would force a Generals punt a short time later. At the time nobody had a clue that this defensive series by the Warriors would start a great night for them, as they only allowed 89-yards the rest of the night.

Before the first quarter ended the Warriors would get a 18-yard reception by Napoleon Harris, on a play that showed how dangerous Harris could be, when he had his number called.

The second quarter was a defensive battle, with a few mistakes tossed causing both teams to struggle on the offensive side of things.
With 10:19 left in the half the best player on the field, who played with a damage shoulder showed a flash of his talent with a 12-yard gain.
A bad snap would cause Eastmoor to lose 10-yards. A sack on of Laster, by the Generals Shay Taylor caused a 7-yard Warriors loss.

The Warriors bad snap from the Center to the quarterback would show its ugly face again and cause an 8-yard loss, with just 0:38 seconds left in the half. Thirteen seconds later 21-yard catch and run by Miicah Coleman to the ball to the Generals 7-yard line, but the clock ran out and this stayed a 7-6 Sheridan lead.

The third quarter was a little over a minute old, when Laster made a poor pass, that was easily picked off by Nick Ranalli.Ranalli read the play like a book making the pick very easy. The Generals capped of a 7-play,65-yard drive, on a touchdown pass from Heller to Thomas Bonkowski. The point after would make this a 14-6 Generals lead, with 8:32 left in the third quarter.

The Warriors wasted little time making this a 14-12 game. A 35-yard run from Birchmore, set up a 21-yard jaunt from the talented Edwards Jr. with 6:52 left on the clock. The drive covered 74-yards taking just four plays. Speed kills and on this drive, it really did.

With Sheridan trying to put together a responding drive a early snap from center sailed by Heller resulting in a 16-yard loss and killing any hopes of answering the Eastmoor score.

The Warriors would get a a 24-yard run from Edwards Jr. to set up a 15-yard score, from you guessed it Edwards Jr. The point after kick was blocked by Jason Munyan to keep this a 18-14 game, with the Warriors now in the lead. This was another four play drive that total just 48-yards.

At the 2:42 mark of the third Edwards would gain 21-yards but his bad shoulder looked to have taken a bad hit and he was done for the night. The kid is one of the best backs I have seen all year long. Hopefully he recovers and can play next week. If not the Warriors offense could be in for a long night. The Generals defense would get another pick, at the 1:01mark of the quarter, when Alec Ogle easily read the play and gave a no-show Generals offense another chance to retake the lead.

The Quarter would see a sack of 7-yards on Heller, when Travis Clodfelter Jr. threw the QB down to the turf.
The Generals offense seemed to have no answer for anything the Warriors defense was doing and as the teams headed to the sideline before the final quarter, one knew that if this did not change the season was going to be over in 12:00.

The Warriors, who are very deep with speed at the running back slot, would show this with 10:28 left, when Birchmore galloped to a 25-yard gain. The General defense would stomp out the drive a short time later.

The Warriors would get two points on a safety, when the Generals were forced to attempt a punt out of their own end zone, making this a 20-14 game, with 4:18 left.

The Generals defense would come up big, when Collin Hill recovered a Warriors fumble, with 2:25 left in the contest.
But on the ensuing drive a sack by Coleman and the an interception by Roshaun Harper ended any dream of a comeback for Sheridan and set off a nice celebration by the Warriors and the good fans that was left in the stands.
