Yea, I read on here a few years ago that Hannan was something like 5-3 against Athens I think it was. With Hannan reeling off the last 4 or 5 in a row I can see why Athens dropped them.hannancoach wrote: ↑Sun Dec 09, 2018 8:12 pm We used to have a great series with Athens but I think we won too many games and they dropped us.

Re: The Rivalry-Rich Football of Southeastern Ohio
I'm not sure if you've been around the area in the last, let's say, 20 years lol But Ny and Miller have absolutely NO beef. The 1997/98 guys might. But the schools play each other in other sports and are completely civil, and football would be the exact same way. I understand why the teams weren't allowed to play each other for the first few years after the fight.......but now? no way. no rivalry there WHAT-SO-EVER. Miller has 2 wins against NY and both came way before the 97/98 season. 1980 the last one lolOlder bird wrote: ↑Mon Dec 10, 2018 3:19 pm N-Y /Trimble. Traditional rival

Athens will take place of old Pike County rival Piketon for Waverly, looking forward to that matchup next season

Should be an interesting match up. We lost a lot but have a lot of skill players and big kids coming back. Probably be a shoot out. Same with the Jackson game. I give both teams the edge but still should be fun games to watch

Waverly loses a good bit of the offensive and defensive line but keep a lot of the skill positions so it should be interesting

The old SOC had heated 1960's competition with the triumvirate of Notre Dame, Waverly, and West. Chuck Easley, Sam Varney, and Terry Gardner were notables..

The Peake vs Fairland in any sport. Use to have bonfires on Thursday before game. You would pass each other on the way to the other team's school and eggs, rocks and bricks were thrown.

Re: The Rivalry-Rich Football of Southeastern Ohio
Not so much the last few yrs of the series but burg - ports has seen it’s share of heated games. I wish that series would pick back up. A couple big ones come to mind for me. One in the early 90s when only four teams from each region made the playoffs burg came into the historic spartan stadium 9-0 ranked like one or two in the state to take on like a 2-7 or 3-6 trojan team and got beat knocking them out of playoff contention. The burg had to have a police escort home.
Another game was my freshman yr in 97. Some burg students painted a old station wagon orange and black and drove it to spartan. They came out and the windows were broken.
Two games come to mind that was not heated but still stand out in my mind. One in 2004. Ports leading 7-0 late in the game and was driving with the chance to go up 14-0. They line up in passing formation first and goal on like the 8 yard line and we picked the ball off taking it to the house.
My fav game of all time was in 2009. Just the 2nd game at the new trojan colliseum. The burg hands them their first loss in the new diggs 68-14

I like the Ironton/Ashland rivalry. I understand that its been very one sided recently, but it has been a great series.
I think Burg/West is another that is turning into a great rivalry. Seems like that game decides the SOC most years. Waverly is coming on though.

I would say we don't still have beef with Miller from 97/98. I think they are a little lucky we didn't finish that game because NY would have been out for some revenge for the actions that took place at halftime. Buckeyes might have been able to move on a little bit faster if the game would have been finished. There was one senior on Miller's team that year that grew up in Nelsonville and played with that Senior class, he played in the all-star game with the NY boys. The whole situation was a mess. Miller was talking trash only down 13-0 which NY kids didn't back down then all of a sudden from no where someone swung a helmet, chaos ensued. It's a good story to tell, but really it was over after it happened. I don't think that many NY and Miller players even knew one another for it to last any longer than that year, but NY kids haven't forgot about it for sure.
