Bishop Rosecrans suspending 11-man football

Post by formerfcfan »

School will attempt to play 8-man this year. The Bishops will only have 13 players.

They were pretty good wasn’t they? I hate to see any team have low numbers

It’s hard to define “pretty good”, but they made playoffs multiple times this decade with less than 20 players. I can tell you they were absolutely stout, fundamental and physical even in week 10 last year with only 13 bodies.

I also make this thread because it is of interest to both East and Notre Dame, two of BR’s opponents scheduled non-league.

In the school announcement, week 2 was not listed as open so I assume the ND game is still on as 8 man

Oh geez, that’s going to be really tough on ND starting off the season like that.

Dwindling participation numbers have or will threaten more gridiron programs not only in SE Ohio but through out the state. Eight man is an option to keep a program alive but scheduling and sanctioning are obstacles. Still eight man games I have seen are entertaining.

Guess now they can't run the score up on Beallsville anymore huh?

This makes two teams from this league that has folded their football teams as Rosecrans joins Millersport.
I wonder if they will try to recruit teams to take their place?

I expect Fairfield Christian to can theirs in a couple years.

MSL-Cardinal down to four football playing schools, in addition to the Worthington Christian playing affiliation.

Of the 13 players on this year's roster...... 7 are seniors.

That’s quite an article. Truly. Great read, even harder is the coach (who was their AD last three years) saying what she said and being blunt.

Kind of ironic that the one freshman they had signed up for football is from New Lexington’s St. Rose.

Game is off. ND rightfully believes that they can make a playoff push and they don’t want to play what amounts to be a meaningless 8-man game the week before FC and Greenup County.

Glad to see N.D. opt to play another team.
Hopefully they have a nice 2019 season.

Newark Catholic has found a opponent to replace Rosecrans week one. Edon (D-VII) will play the Greenwave on either August 30 or 31 at a neutral site. per Newark Advocate.
