Wheelersburg 41 - 7 West

Post by wobycat »

Burg coming together at the right time. Owns at least a share of soc, can win outright Friday. West struggling this year but has talent coming up.

Thoughts on game?

Burg is coming together at the right time hopefully. 7-3 season with a 6th straight league title and a home playoff game is within reach.

This is gonna be a LONG night for the west defense. Running clock to start the second half. Lots of playing time for the second and third string

Not saying they weren’t there, but a lot of the holding was away from the play or the ball was 10-15 yard past where it occurred.
Referring is not an easy task, so I get it.
But I agree, it needs cleaned up

Coaches will take a few holds especially receivers blocking downfield. They need to just understand when to release but burg is doing fine.

Look for Burg to take care of business quick and early and get 1st team out and let those kids on the sidelines eat a little.

I agree 100% on the holding penalties. It wasn’t just the valley game, there were several in the waverly . Oak hill and Minford games as welll. Especially in the first half of Minford. I would love to know the # over the last 4 games cause it’s been a lot. If they get that cleaned up with the way the offense is now playing and get a few people healthy could make for an interesting playoff run. they are gonna have to go thru some big dogs in Ridgewood And ironton to win the region

2/3 of West’s varsity players would normally be playing on the JV squad, not this year. Wheelersburg wins. West’s future looks strong.

Then what happened to all the varsity starters?

Before a couple injuries West started almost all seniors last year.

The kid that transferred to Ironton was the only returning skill player with varsity time and probably would've been the quarterback.

Couple other upperclassmen decided not to play. Had 2 junior starters suffer season ending injuries

Only have 6 seniors.
Junior class has about 10 kids.
Sophomore class is really small.
5 freshmen started Friday with a couple going both ways. Few more see time.

Only won 2 games but honestly they have competed well considering their youth.

I look for West to be improved next year and really good the year after.

As long as Pendleton doesn’t start coming around. I’d watch him at the family reunions. Lol
