Burg - Football History

Post by laser breath »

http://www.burgfootball.com/all-time-re ... story.html

Burgs history is pretty awesome. 2 state titles. A bunch of playoff wins, regionals, etc.

But One of the best stats is they have one of the highest winning percentages all time in the state of Ohio. I think I read somewhere that it’s like fourth all time. Pretty impressive since they didn’t start until 1956 which is about 50 years later than some of the local programs around here. Imagine how many total wins they’d have if they did? Probably own that category too.

While we all acknowledge (and many of us are bored with hearing about) Wheelersburg's dominance of SOC football over the last 50 years, the linked website is a great depository of Wheelersburg football history. Such data can add to or highlight story lines about upcoming games. Researching, publishing, and maintaining such a website is obviously a labor of love by someone or many.

Speaking of labor of love, the following link will take you to fourseasonsfootball.com, a site that has extensive season and individual game history records for high schools in Virginia and West Virginia. I wonder if such a resource exists for Ohio?

Burg is the best school hands down in all of boys and girls sports and especially academics! As far as football goes Burg has the highest winning percentage in southern Ohio and 4th place in all of Ohio high school football. GO BURG! Hands down best school in the area

But is there as much history than in these two teams? Do any other teams have as many wins and as high of a career win percentage?

Portsmouth Notre Dame has state titles , NY has a great tradition and a title , Athens just recently had the best team ever to come out of our area and heisman trophy candidate, Jackson has over 600 wins and is always good . But we’ll all be quiet and study about burg and Ironton. Sorry man.

Rather than being quite, you could start a topic to celebrate all of these teams success!

But why ? No other fan base does that in middle of the season. Maybe in the summer. Just my opinion.

That's amazing.

The closest Ohio is Joe Eitel which goes back to 2000.

I have built my own database of EVERY SINGLE ohio playoff game including dates, locations, scores, etc. - but that's just playoff games back to '72.

I'd love to build something like that someday.

They had teams back in the 30’s to.

1930: 4-3
1931: 7-4
1932: 1-7
1933: 3-5-1
1934: 1-5-1
1935: 3-4-1
1936: 1-5-3
1937: 5-3
1938: 3-5
1939: 1-8

No program from 1940-49. Then it started back in 1950. Click on record by season
