Jackson 70 Centennial 28

Post by ironman02 »

Division III - Region 11 - Quarterfinal

The Centennial Stars are making their first playoff appearance in school history, while Jackson will be making its 14th trip to the post-season. Jackson is 7-13 all-time in the OHSAA playoffs, with two regional final appearances.

I, admittedly, do not know many details about Centennial. Hopefully someone can post some information about some of their key players.

Jackson was hitting on all cylinders against Chillicothe in Week 10, so hopefully they are playing their best football of the season. Playing at home should also be a nice advantage for the Ironmen as they look to advance.

Jackson Ironmen (10-0)

8/31 H Wellston (7-3) [5:19] W 23-6
9/6 A Athens (5-5) [3:11] W 31-26

10/11 A Washington (7-3) [4:16] W 34-7
10/18 A Miami Trace (5-5) [3:11] W 48-19
10/25 A Hillsboro (4-6) [4:16] W 42-3
11/1 H Chillicothe (4-6) [2:8] W 49-2

Columbus Centennial Stars (9-1)

Jackson wasn’t a real great football team the first 3 games but then started to click and have been dominant ever since. However none of that means anything Friday. Can’t comment on Centennial or a prediction until do more research. However week 11 at home is always fun.

No contest, the best draw Jackson could have received. The City league North is terrible as has been since Brookhaven closed years ago and the Columbus City schools cracked down on transfers a few years ago. Beechcroft and Brookhaven used to get a lot of them. It helped Cetennial not playing South teams Walnut Ridge, Independence, South and Marion Franklin so that record is very deceiving. The best team they played is Grandview Heights (a small Upper Arlington type community) just a couple miles down the road who are D6 , 6-4 and Centennial lost to them. Jackson should win this by 28 or more.

Got to go with Poo Bear and Ironman92 team with a defense game. Also running game to shorten the game giving centennials less opportunities to score. Jackson on to week 12!

Centennial does not go very deep- they will have approximately 25-30 on rooster. There QB can throw the ball and their running back and wide receivers are very quick. They like to play the roll of underdog. Their team motto is "US against the World". I know its a football game but hope they bring their marching band- for a Columbus City school the marching Centennial Stars are great- they march about 110 members. Predict Jackson wins 59-24.

I don’t remember how the Centennial game went with Chilly but we could’ve won 70-0 but I have to imagine Chilly played harder bs Centennial

Hopefully Jackson fans make them feel like they are going against the world. I enjoy a good band.

As for the game....if Jackson plays close to their week 10 performance, we’ll win nicely I feel. If Jackson plays sloppy like weeks 1, 2, 4.....season will probably be over.

Feed Spires, Ice get some keepers, few balls to Prater, few throws to others, line keep being great and no bonehead penalties....and don’t be getting burnt deep as they will be faster than us and most teams we’ve seen. But can they sustain a long drive on our defense? I doubt it often.

I love our depth though.

Jackson this year has defined what coaches and fans expect from their team, and that is to get better and better each week. Like someone said they may have been a bit sluggish to start the season but with each passing week they have improved and it was topped off with a huge game against Chilly in week 10. Jackson is going into the playoffs playing their best ball and I look for them to put Centennial away very early, those underdog teams you don't let stick around and so far this year Jackson has put teams away when it's time and not let them linger on. Jackson 42-14

At this time of the year, you have to respect every team. A matter of 2 pts, regardless of how weak there schedule might have been, and they would be 10-0 just like the Ironmen. Centennial has certainly scored a boat load of points this season.

Not that it matters much to this game, but I seem to recall Jackson playing Centennial once, back in the late 80's or early 90's. Can't remember a score, only that it was at the old field.
