Union Local 26 - 28 Portsmouth 2022 Playoffs

Post by PTrojan59 »

Portsmouth unfortunately came up just short yet again on hosting a home playoff game. The Trojans will take the 3 hour and some change drive to Union Local for the first round of the playoffs. Union Local come into this game losing their final 4 games of the season. Those teams have a combined record of 31-9. Meanwhile the Trojans will come into this game after being thumped by 10-0 Ironton at home. Union Local seems to have a stud at RB. I’ve seen highlights they do throw the ball but running seems to be their bread and butter. Thankfully Portsmouth’s run defense has been much better than their pass defense. Winner of this game will head to Ironton the following week. Thoughts?

Hopefully Portsmouth plays like they did vs Spring Valley and makes some noise in the playoffs

If Portsmouth line can block and give Duncan just a second or 2 more I like the odds. The past 2 weeks the line hasn’t been very good and Duncan last night ran for his life about every play. I need to look at some union local games because I know nothing about them but the schedule they play seems kind of tough. Winner gets to drive to ironton in week 12.

Union Local RB Price seems to be the real deal. He is the schools single season rushing leader, single season touchdown leader and the career rushing leader.

What has stood out for me the last 2 weeks of watching the Trojans is the play of the O-line. They struggled against South Point and Ironton, and to advance past week 11 has to do better. It's been shown over the course of the regular season that if QB Tyler Duncan has time to throw, he and the talented receivers PHS has can make plays. Tyler also can make good yards with his feet.

I don't know anything about Union Local, but I do know they're not Ironton. On that basis, I give the Trojans a good chance to win.

Does union local stream games. That drive will be hard for some folks.

Did a quick check on FB and youtube and it doesn't look like they do unfortunately. They just lost a close one to #3 seed Barnesville 29-26.

If Portsmouth wants to win ,they need to figure out the running back situation, everyone in the stands knows the situation and what it SHOULD be!

And also like posted already the O line has to do better.

I don't think no one in Belmont wants to buy Portsmouth or Ironton pictures.

UL is a primarily run heavy offense with a stud Rb. Here is a link to their highlights from Storied Rivals, who do a great job:

Portsmouth by 2 scores, if UL and Barnesville in ovc they would be 6-4 / 7-3.

Agree. It’s not a great conference. But long drive worth 4 pts. Phs by 4-7

It’s a long drive, but I think the Trojans pull it out if they come to play. Enjoy the experience

Union Local could easily be 9-0. Their four losses are by a combined 13 points.

Portsmouth matches up very well with them, I think. Win the turnover battle and don’t give them a short field to work with.

If the Price kid gets going they build momentum off of him. I really think that Portsmouth wins this game similar to the Coal Grove game.
