Barnesville 21 - 14 Piketon 2022 Playoffs

Post by eagles73Taylor »

The Redstreaks travel the 168 miles to Barnesville to take on the Shamrocks! The field at Barnesville is old school, fans stand right on the sidelines and endzones! No predictions, just wishing the Streak fans safe travels.

The Red Streaks have no pressure on them, having earned the 4-game win streak to sneak into the playoffs. After losing over 95% of their offensive production from last season, the Streaks have developed some players for the future.

The best atmospheres. Symmes Valley does that too when they field a good team

Congrats to Piketon on finishing the season strong after getting past the 3 headed monster in the SVC this year. However, Barnesville simply just too much should be a running clock in this one.

Good luck Redstreaks. It won't be easy, but then I don't guess it's supposed to be.

I was hoping Piketon would save us the long drive to Barnesville. But what can you do? 🤷🏻‍♂️ They almost pulled it off.

Piketon had the ball at Barnesviles 25 with 2 minutes and turned it over on downs, the Rock drives it down and scores. The Streaks played their hearts out, they had played 3 very good teams in the league, so they were prepared.

What an effort by the Streaks! Down 14-8 early in the 4th. Barnesville fumbles at the 5. Streaks drive 95 yards in 18 plays to tie it up. During the drive at least 7-8 different players ran, caught, or threw the ball. Total team effort. The Piketon O-line physically wore them down as the game went on. Defensive played lights out after early 14-0 deficit. Left it all on the field!
Heartbreaking to lose, but what an effort. This team overachieved after losing so much to graduation last year. Great job to the senior leaders and coaching staff to improve from start to finish. In football and in life, that is what it’s all about. Trust the process and show up each day with great effort.
For Barnesville, really unique atmosphere for the game. What Friday nights in small town USA are all about.
Until next year….

Streaks were down 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, didn’t really have an answer for preventing the big play. Defense held steady and got 2 takeaways in the second quarter to keep it 14/0 at the half. Up to that point, the Red Streak offense had really struggled with the Rock defense. The Rock defense was crashing hard, especially the ends and linebackers.

After halftime, Piketon picked up the intensity and got a score to cut the Shamrock lead to 14-8. In the 4th, Zane Brownfield absolutely hammers the Rock RB at the goal line, causing a fumble that was recovered by the Streaks. They drove down the field to score and tie the game with under 6 minutes to go.

After a 3 and out, the Streaks had all of the momentum and went driving down to about the Shamrock 35. On 4th down, a completed pass has stopped a couple of yards short and Barnesville took over with just over a minute to go. After a run and a long pass play in which a missed tackle and smart decision making by the receiver, the Rocks were deep in Red Streak territory. The defense played hard, but the qb Hannahs scored with 9.8 seconds to go for the win.

Barnesville is a great place to watch a high school football game. Old school atmosphere with the fans literally standing on the end lines. The folks in the pressbox treated us on the radio great. Long drive to get there, but even with the loss, it was worth the drive.

Piketon graduates a great group of seniors, and we fans should be proud of what they were able to achieve this year. Losing roughly 99% of last year’s offensive production to reach the playoffs and take the 3rd seeded team to the final 10 seconds is a pretty good accomplishment.
