So what if they go 6-4, these are high school kids, this is not college or pros, 16-18 year old kids and a very highly successful Head Coach. Wow just because Wheelersburg is 1-2 they played better teams.
The players are not professional, but the coach is. He gets paid to do this job, and this is the most undisciplined Burg team I have ever seen.

If the penalties and turnovers in this game were a one off, then okay. Bad games happen. But this is the third game in a row of disastrous, undisciplined play by the Burg. And that falls on the head coach.

“So what if they go 6-4?” Are you familiar at all with Burg football? In the past 50 years, only five times have they lost 4 or more regular season games. That would not sit well given the talent this team has, and especially because the team is shooting themselves in the foot game after game after game…

Good luck to Jackson the rest of the way.

Congrats Jackson on the win!! Hard fought game!!

Just curious. How many holding penalties did Burg have?

Had some big plays brought back because of holds!! Need to clean that up!!

Fine contest between two of the class of SEO. And congrats to Ironton on building what they have. darn shame everyone in the area can't unite and celebrate our region. Facts are : Ironton is #1 but falls short in the big game. Jackson isn't far behind but can't win a region. Burg did get it done on the big stage a few yrs back. I wish all 3 programs won region and state every year. The end.

Question: what does Ironton have to do with this game?

Wheelersburg has given up 62 pts in 3 games. If Wheelersburg is going to win games I think the D wouldn’t be giving up 62 pts for a average of 21 pts a game given up. Head Coach isn’t on field playing either. Just going by you saying this is best Defense at Wheelersburg. How is these last three games of high schools kids games disastrous. Maybe in your eyes!

Congrats to Jackson. Burg sputters too much on offense
Defensively played good enough to win just on the field a little too long.

In the future I’m just going to go ahead and assume burgs losing to ironton and Jackson every year. Just don’t have what it takes to beat them anymore

Burg held IHS to 17 points despite the O committing four turnovers.

Against McNich: McNich started one drive at the Burg 11 and another at the Burg one resulting in 10 points. Burg D did about as good as possible in these cases.

At Jackson: Jackson scored 14 points after Burg turnovers resulted in Jackson starting in Burg territory.

Also, didn’t say this was the best defense ever. Said this was a good defense that has been put in terrible situations due to special teams and offensive miscues.

Burg has turned the ball over nine times, not including the botched punt giving McNich the ball on the one. Penalties have gotten worse each game. Special teams miscues have been numerous.

Burg being 1-2 is not the problem. IHS and Jackson are good programs. But Burg committing seven turnovers and a significant number of penalties in those losses is really bad, especially since the same mistakes were made in Burg’s only win. Plus, Woodward has now lost four out the last five to both Jackson and IHS. This is not a good trend!

Btw, when did Burg fans start accepting mediocrity? Defending the coach who does not have the team playing disciplined football? Ed Miller would take enormous grief for going 8-2. Now fans are on here saying “so what if Burg goes 6-4.”

You may be right. The program needs a jolt, or they are going to continue to get beat every year by IHS, Jackson, and HP.

no! ed miller would have done just like he did in 1984, he would have taken Ironton off the schedule. At least Burg plays Ironton every year now! Burg ducked Ironton in most of Millers years. Burg has good program now. to compare a guy who wouldn’t play Lutz for years, is a disgrace.
This guy at Burg now plays them every year.

Sadly I agree.

I owe an apology to all the IHS fans that I have battled with on this forum. They are right and I am wrong: IHS coaches are out-working Burg coaches. Toss Jackson coaches in there as well.

I hope Woodward proves me wrong and rights the ship, but the trend has not been good. Guess we will see come Harvest Prep.

Ironton was a bigger school back then. Today, they are the same size. Plus, losing just one game back then could cost you a playoff spot. Today, teams can go 5-5 and make the playoffs. You’re comparing apples and oranges.

Btw, Woodward is lucky Lutz isn’t coaching these Ironton teams. Burg wouldn’t be losing by just one or two scores…

Bout time for somebody from Burg to cry about Ironton/Pendleton recruiting while another 7-3 (starting to think 6-4) season on tap. RBH and jtek spittin’ lot of facts tonight*

I really felt as if Burg had seized the momentum big time tonight after they had scored those 2 touchdowns right before the end of the first half. Penalties and Turnovers always seem to have a big affect on the outcome of a game such as tonight. Depending on which team you were rooting for, it's a shame that one of the teams had to walk off the field with a loss last night.
