In 2023, the largest DV football school had 203 boys (204 with CB).
Yes, I had pulled 2022-23, here is 2023-24:
https://www.ohsaa.org/School-Resources/ ... chool-Year

Division Adjusted Enrollment Schools
I 620 and more 70
II 619 - 385 105
III 384 - 274 105
IV 273 - 206 105
V 205 - 158 106
VI 157 - 115 105
VII 114 and less 105
Thanks. Can you share the link to the preliminary numbers? Couldn’t find them on the OHSAA website.

Preliminary numbers as follows:
Oak Hill 152
Waverly 213
West TBD
Wheelersburg 204
Minford 156
Valley 138
Northwest 155

2022-23 Division Breakdowns
DIV 269-202
DV 201-154
DVI 153-113

Of course the numbers can be appealed, and the divisional breakdowns can shift a few each way to even up the total number in each division, so this is all subject to change.

What are the odds Waverly and Wheelersburg go to DIV?
Could one or more of Oak Hill, Minford, or Northwest Drop to DVI?
How would Wheelersburg and Waverly feel about playing in a league of DVI teams?
I think Waverly has been Division IV for a while

Burg at 204 (390 total), Ironton at 169 (334 total), and Portsmouth 188 (330 total).

Really shocked that Burg is the bigger school of these three. Times have definitely changed.

Waverly was last D V in 2013 and 14, but in 2012 was D IV. Since 2015 Waverly has been D IV

LOL!! That’s something I would typically say.

Hard to believe, but there was a time when IHS and Portsmouth were bigger than Burg. Even competed academically against Burg. Really sad to see what’s happened to both towns and schools.

Can someone do the enrollment numbers for West? I’ve heard people say that we are really close to dropping to D6. If someone could verify where we will most be at, that would be great. I’m not exactly sure how it works anymore

I couldn’t find them but did today under Portsmouth West. I’ll update my original post but they’re at 161 so not as close to DVI as others.

Oak Hill sweeps this year. A few birdies say there are some transfers headed there from jackson and gallia. Could be a good year for the oaks

They would need a lot more than that!! Didn't even play some of their league games last year and the rest were running clock!!

 Unless there are four or five linemen (O and D), a couple running backs (who can also play linebacker), and a couple wide receivers (who can play in the secondary) moving in then it ain't happening. The Oaks will be 1-9 and maybe 0-10 (depending on their week two opponent) . It is not a bash on the Oaks, it is just the reality of their current situation.

Also more affordable housing in Wheelersburg.

Right now there are 6 houses for sale in Minford, three of them over $500,000. Compare to Wheelersburg with 12 for sale. None over $500,000. If you’re looking for a good school with an affordable house, you’re probably moving to Wheelersburg unless you fall into a sweetheart deal somewhere else.

Wheelersburg offers cheaper housing while also providing the best education in the area?

So you are saying that Minford does a poor job investing property tax money into their schools? Or Wheelersburg does an incredible job with the limited funds that they have?

I think it’s more nuanced than that, but yeah Wheelersburg is doing almost everything better than any school in the county. If you don’t have ties to another district (and sometimes even if you do), where would you pick to move your family? As someone who loved away for a while and moved back, there was only two places I even considered. Minford because of ties to the district, and Wheelersburg for all the obvious reasons.

It helps to have high quality leadership. I’m not sure Minford has ever had a superintendent as high quality as Mark Knapp (coincidentally a Minford alum, I believe).

I must be thinking of someone else then. He does seem to be one of the best superintendents around.

Word on the street is that Burg will be D4. Still working with OHSAA on the numbers but unlikely they stay D5.
