Buckeye 8 to become Buckeye 12

Post by carbon_dated »

Barnesville, Buckeye Local and Brooke WV have joined the league.
Football Big School: Beaver Local, Brooke, Cambridge, East Liverpool, Indian Creek, St. Clairsville

Football Small School: Barnesville, Bellaire, Buckeye Local, Harrison Central, Martins Ferry, Union Local.

Most sports will begin next school year, but football (2025) and basketball ('25-26) will wait to get scheduling ironed out.
This coming school year the B-8 will have eight full time members.
East Liverpool is back as a fulltime member, while Martins Ferry will spend one year as partial member after previously planning on exiting.
Newest members Brooke, Buckeye Local and Barnesville can compete as partial members (non-football, BK) next school year as well.

This coming school year (2024-25) before the 12 team league fully goes into effect in 2025-26, the Buckeye 8 will consist of eight full time members:

(North) East Liverpool, Beaver Local, Harrison Central, Indian Creek and (South) St. Clairsville, Cambridge, Bellaire, Union Local.

East Liverpool is back as a full time member while Martins Ferry will spend one year as a partial member (non-football, hoops) after previously planning on exiting. They will, however, be part of the new set up.

Love seeing Brooke in there.

Over/under for Cambridge to crank up the speed dial to the MVL and IVC to 11.

Story in today's paper said league will keep name Buckeye 8 despite 12 members.
Funny to me but oh well as college's Big 10 will now have 18 with addition of USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington.

So why is the Buckeye 8/12 bad for Cambridge? Travel?

In the big school-small setup: Just drive 22 from Cambridge to Cadiz. Then keep on going. And going.

Absolutely way too much travel and not happy with management of the league. Schools making demands, threatening to leave unless they get their way, catering to certain schools and the dog crap they pulled last year with baseball. Didn't have any other league options when we originally joined so it sorta made sense. Knew travel was going to be an issue but it reunited us with several OVAC rivals and guaranteed OVAC tourney qualifications/post season awards.

They have a new commish now so we'll see how it goes. Regardless, we are exploring options again.
