I'm not really sure what you expected them to do in the winter meetings. If they aren't ready to contend with what they already have, then why trade away pieces? I think they are still one more year away. We'll see some improvement this year. But, 2019, at least I think, is when we'll really start to see some decent baseball.

As for Cozart, I'm glad for him. He seems like a great guy, not only a very good player, but a great clubhouse guy. I had no problem with them letting him go, as there was no way you could offer a $13 million qualifying offer to him. So, I wish him the best of luck.

Reds sign relief pitcher Phil Hughes to a 2 year deal worth just a shade over 2 million. If Hughes can produce for the Reds like he did with Milwaukee last year that's a bargain!

Reds sign three players to 1 year deals to avoid arbitration. Hamilton ($4.6m), Lorenzen ($1.31m) and DeSclafani ($860k). The DeSclafani is a good one, didn't have to pay much to get him to resign. Lorenzen has been decent in the bullpen. And we all knew they would resign Hamilton, which I like.

Suarez and Gennett will both be going to arbitration hearings, lets hope they sign both of them, those will be two starters going into next year, good ones at that.

With not resigning Cozart (which was a good move, he wanted too much money) they have to get Gennett. We will see Peraza getting the starting job at SS. Gennett started 99 games at 2B, so that is pretty crucial.

To me, the most important thing to do in arbitration will be the resigning of Suarez. He started 153 games at 3B last season (.260 BA; 26 HR; 82 RBI).

Jmo ! Peraza can't cut it ! Hope he can ! Gennett took his job last season at 2nd .

I don't know if Peraza can cut it or not, hasn't spent much time in the majors yet. I honestly don't think he lost that 2B job last year, Gennett flat out won it, couldn't keep him out of the lineup.

hopefully some of these moves will lead to wachin meaningful reds baseball past memorial day weekend.

Reds sign a solid addition to their bullpen. Signing David Hernandez to a 2 year deal worth 5 million. He pitched for the Angels and D-Backs last year where he appeared in 64 games with a 3.11 ERA.
